Predators close to extending Mike Fisher

David Pagnotta ‏@TheFourthPeriod

Looks like the Predators are close to signing Mike Fisher to a contract extension.
Expand

Fisher is in the final year of a deal that pays him 4.2 per. Would expect the money to be pretty similar to that. Foregone conclusion, but nice to get this out of the way early. Player and team have been very happy from the start.

Preds offer probably contains a lot of back loading.

Makes sense, he's a perfect fit for the Predators organization.

i expect, actually, that it will be a pretty flat number. that's the Preds MO. Matching the SW offersheet didn't bankrupt ownership, no matter what anyone likes to believe.

Good to see him re-signing hopefully soon. While it was weird seeing him in another sweater after he spent so many years in Ottawa bothering the Sabres, he just seems right in Nashville after getting used to seeing him there. Should retire as a Predator and he seems to love it there. I've grown to like Fisher so much more now that he's not in our conference or division anymore. He's a player all 29 other teams would love to have.

Relieved to see that the source is from fourth period. That said, he still would be a very good match for Nashville long term

Sens fan here, absolutely love Fish. Had he not married Carrie, he'd likely still be in Ottawa, but the Sens were classy enough to trade him to where he could be with his wife full time. I know that if he can't be in Ottawa, that Nashville is where he wants to be. All the best to Mike and the Predators.

Yeah, they'll probably run a story on it in Toronto around April or May, they're always looking for something hockey related to fill the papers around then. "Maple Leafs Miss the Playoffs Once Again" only keeps them busy for a day or two.

If only this wasn't 100% accurate

IIRC, they talked early this summer about Chet Pickard (our ECHL backup now playing in Sweden) challenging for the backup role....

I wouldn't put that past the Tennessean, but fortunately they're not the only newspaper.

For what its worth I live in the area where Fisher was born and raised, and have some mutual aquaintances, who all say that Fisher and Underwood both were very nice, humble, down to earth people. One guy was at their wedding and said they were just like any of "us"

Always liked Fisher as a player and Underwood as eye candy. Hope you guys lock him up long term.

Hope this gets done. He's been good for Nashville since they brought him over from Ottawa.

Anybody got thoughts on what this means for Legwand long-term? Seems they have a few very similar players at center.

I agree, but he'll end up with a long term deal as well. They're great 2nd/3rd liners, but we really need a true #1 C. In camp, they're going to try Wilson at C to see how he does. If he sticks, it's possible he could be that C (eventually).
