Porkins at the 2012 Canada - Russia challenge.

For the discussion of Prorhkorkin's play at the upcoming Russia - Canada Challenge which will be played August 13th and 14th.

He's the lone Kings prospect on either roster so... really not that much else to add at this point, other than go Russia!

Can't wait for them to start!

I will be at the games and will watch Russia at least twice.

If I'm not mistaken, it's actually a four day tourny, two in Russia and two in North America. Canada won game one according to TSN:

Whoops, my bad. Spaced the two games in Russia completely... You're correct Game 2 is in Russia tomorrow.

I didn't see the games, and have no idea how well he played or if he got much ice time at all. But he didn't register a point in 4 games, with Russia scoring 16 goals in those 4 games.

He got an assist in Russia's 6-5 win.

I wrote an article for another website/outlet and am not certain I can post the link. I can cut and paste it here but I want to read the rules for HF first. This is the first time I have officially written something for a hockey publication and I don't want to cause any trouble.

I should know by Monday pm.

I can say that Porky reminds me of a young Elias his intensity. Of course he has a long long way to go become the same sort 0f pro but he looks pretty good so far. Great tourney for him. He is still a year or so in the AHL at least away but he looks very good among his peers.

I got to see bit and peices of the series. I only noticed porkins a hand full of times Each time i noticed him it was on a Canadain rush He was always the frist forward back Seemed to be right in front of the net twice beating his defenseman to the position. So to me i was impressed by his defenisive abilitys not really mention to my knowledge.

This was pretty much all there was o see of him in the two games I caught the streams of. He seems solid defensively and not much else but he also seemed to really only be used in a shutdown role soyou'd expect him to have a decent game on away from the puck.

When I watched him play at the prospect development camp, he was able to control the puck and had some deft moves on the fly. Given his size, skillset, and strength in traffic, I liken him a bit to Bobby Ryan. Does anyone else see it, or anything like that?

I thought TG's Elias comparison was pretty spot on. He isn't as physical as Ryan is in my eyes, but he seems to have that knack for being where he needs to be to turn a turnover into a scoring chance like Elias has. In my limited viewing he didn't really seem to be that strong on the puck or strong in traffic. He came off as a fairly intelligent player that was rarely out of position.

My bad. I didn't see his name in the points chart on Wikipedia - and in my follow-up scan on TSN, I must have missed it.
The point I was trying to make remains, however: he only scored 1 point - but I don't know how much ice time he had or how well he played.
If Tonellisghost gets his article up, I'm sure he'll provide much better coverage.

I understand, just wanted to make a minor correction, because you know those people who will go "OMG a forward scores 0 points!? BUST. Dean DUMBardi strikes again!" Not like one point makes a huge difference, but just in case.

You can watch all 4 games VOD stream on TSN. I only watched games 1 & 2 but it seems like eventhough he didn't get on the scoreboard he did a lot of good things offensively for his line to score like keeping pucks in the O-Zone, controlling the puck along the boards, breaking up outlet passes, attacking the blue line, screening the goaltender, or causing trouble for the D-men. IMO his line was one of the most effective for Team Russia.

Another pic

Prorky is a family oriented kid who loves the game of hockey.

He is a tough and even feisty player who looks for contact.

He is a positionally sound player with above average hockey IQ and I would even say that he displayed a fair amount of exceptional instincts at times during the WJC's. He plays up to his competition and seems to really like the role of character guy on his team. His skill set is easily above his assigned responsibilities but he doesn't go out of hs way to point that out. He instead plays a solid smart two way game and whenever the opportunity presents itself he shows flash and smarts offencively.

His dream is to get a chance to make it in the NHL and he is very excited to be a Los Angeles King. He can't emphasize that enough, he wants to be a King and wants it above anything else.

These are just a few notes I had on Prorky.
