Kyle Clifford

Potentially if he were available, what would it cost the Leafs to land him?

An over payment of frattin and a 2nd to start . There is no reason to trade him so overpayment needed . He is a fan favourite young gritty lw with some offensive upside.

What's going on with him? I know he is a UFA but what kind of contract is he looking for? Are there other teams interested in him?

I have no idea if their are teams are interested in him, he'll want a one-way contract. He'll probably sign a 1-year 875,000 dollar contract.

Clifford would be worth about a third or fourth at most, to most teams. He's not someone a reasonable GM would want to overpay for.

And at the same time, a GM with Clifford's rights wouldn't want to give him away, since he does have a very viable role and he can play as a regular NHLer.

To me, it's just not worth discussing. He's a regular NHLer, but doesn't have a lot of market value, especially with his concussion history.

I disagree.

He's just learning to play with his size , he has above average hockey IQ, a great set of hands, and an awesome nickname. He is a classic late bloomer.

New Jersey is short on left wingers with size. Would Tedenby be a good start?

So what do you see him becoming? Especially with getting two concussions in two straight seasons?

What do you think teams should pay for him, and would you want the Kings to pay that price for a young third/fourth liner who plays a gritty game?

Low first/High Second rounder. He's only 21. There's still too much upside

So you would be okay with the Kings trading a low first/high second rounder to a team for a 21 year-old who regressed back into a fourth line role, although he's a tough and skilled player?

Seems like a hefty price to pay. I wouldn't want the Kings to make that trade.

Keep in mind he was apparently one of the players MG was looking for in a Hodgson trade (although I think it was Clifford + Voynov likely)

One bad year. I am ok with it.

If we lacked that type of player and needed a player like him, I would.

Yeah, but can he shake that fighter mentality? Will he ever say no to someone offering him to drop the gloves and just continue with his concussion problems?

Look at a player like Tocchet that changed his game to be more of a complete player rather then a crash line guy (not saying he is going to be Tocchet). Clifford could be a poor man's Deadmarsh but you don't know if he can change his game so no one is going to overpay for him.

Where does he fit in with Nolan and King in the line up?

I honestly don't think he regressed back to a forth line player as the kings brought in talent to move him down in the lineup ( gagne and king) He played in more game and cut he plus minis in half and still had the same production despite playing with moreau and hunter westgarth as linemates. He may have 2 concusions but he s played in 157 out of 164 games in his carrer. He is still gaining muscle and size when hes finally done filling out i see him as a 3rd line at worse with potential of 2nd line mins if given a chance. Especially with gagne and penner possiblely leaving after this year. His combination of toughness and skill is unique on the kings and was one of the reason simmonds was let go.

As he gets older he ll figure out when to pick his battles. As he moves up the lines he will fight less and use his skill more . The reason i said overpay for him to move is i dont want him to move. Hes one of the younger cheaper players that can grow into a scoring roll with toughness to protect our stars.

I honestly think nolon may end up starting in mancheaster cause i belive hes the only one that can pass down without waivers( not postive on this ) I see westgarth being traded or released with richardson being the 13th forward

Nolan plays on the right.

The Kings will need The Big Red Dog nexy year if one, or both, of Gagne or Penner aren't back.

Were one of/both his concussions at the end of one of the seasons? Because to be honest only missing 7 games total from 2 concussions is kind of a red flag to me.

Edit: I see one was in the playoffs and he did miss 9 games from that. I see now how the stat you used was slightly misleading haha (not enough to make your point invalid though mind you)

Seeing that the kings are all about winning now, and the fact that Clifford may not even make the kings starting roster this year, I'd be open to trading him if the price is right.

Clifford could be a McCarty type of player. 20/20 guy at best with 150 PIM's. Those players don't grow on trees. He has more value to the Kings than any other team.
