Canada Russia challenge 2012

Ok just thought I would get this started since this series is 11 days away? (ok I know I know I might be jumping the gun a bit!!

Here is our roster:

http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php.../ss_id/190000/

Here is the Russian roster:.:

http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php.../ss_id/190000/

Canadian team looks pretty stacked and mostly draft class of either 2011 or 2012. Russia is full of 2013 draft class so I am not sure what the deal is with the youth movement but other than a few high end players they are looking REALLY young??

pumped to see our Jets prospects Sutter and Schiefele play. With Huberdeau and Strome on the team Mark still faces a similar challenge to last years WJC in the sense he has 2 very talented centers On the Canadian roster that were drafted ahead of him. would be nice to see Sutter play with Tom Wilson on an energy line.

Games are august 9th and 10th in Russia then August 13th and 14th in Halifax. Does it seem weird to anyone else that Mackinnon wasn't invited with the games being in Halifax and his high profile (and talent)?

Any idea if we are going to be getting this on TV?

tbh I didn't even know this was going on, too much news in this offseason (it's slowed down alot lately). Thanks for posting this, very excited to see the prospects in action, along with some of the other big names from the draft. Did anyone get a chance to see the super series game that was played at the mts centre? I did!

As we speak I'm watching a replay of a round robin game from this past WJHC, fighting to pretend I don't know how it's going to end.

This challenge series can't come soon enough.

When I get antsy, I fire up some Jets clips to whet the appetite.

I've been doing that a lot recently.

Been trying to play NHL 12 as well, but 13 looks way so damn good that it sucks the fun out of it.

I can't wait to see Scheifele and Sutter in action. When will they announce who plays on which days?

They're pretty much the same age as us ('93's with a few '94's), it's just that they're undrafted and they list undrafted players as being eligible for next year's draft ('13).

No worries. It's still kind of interesting because it really drives home how few Russians are being drafted these days. Only 9 drafted players and 4 of them play in the CHL. Only 2 of the 6 guys playing in the CHL have gone undrafted.

I do not find it weird at all. Hockey Canada came out and stated their rules hence MacKinnon's ineligibility.

Quote:
The rule says players 17 and younger who have not been a part of Canada's summer Under-18 program are not eligible to participate in the Under-20 development camp. Hockey Canada announced earlier this month that the Canada-Russia Challenge - which has games at the Halifax Metro Centre on Aug. 13 and 14 - would replace its usual summer evaluation camp this year.
This was a story in May about the MacKinnon on TSN.ca - http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/story/?id=396734

Oh man, I can watch all of those games. I'll have to find a stream for the TSN2 ones, as I don't have that channel. Still, my body is ready.

They are going with an expanded roster so not all players will play all games. Most don't see Sutter being in the main lineup that much.

I somehow doubt it, considering it looks to be a collusion between Hockey Canada and whatever governs the Russian Juniors. You could check to see US broadcasting rights, though you're more than likely going to have to watch a stream of it.

Hopefully he gets a taste. I would like to see him in action in at least one game.

I'm guessing he'll get played in one of the four games... maybe more if lucky or has a good game
Experience is experience regardless.

Scheif will probably be C one of their top 6 lines. Him and Strome will make a fine 1-2.

Looking at the Russian's, it looks like they have a very strong first line but lack depth

Is Huberdeau not our #1 centre garret?

He has primarily been utilized at wing by hockey Canada.
