I would say in addition that the league should have an obligation to ensure that teams are placed in healthy markets. There would be less financial strain at the bottom if some of those teams were placed in some of the hockey starved markets. You can understand the owners of wealthy teams being a little choked when they are asked to share a chunk of their profits with teams that have been placed in unsustainable markets, especially given that there are several thirsty markets dying to have a team.

I'm actually a little optimistic this time around. Here's my reasoning: the NHL is booming and making lots of money. This is why the owners want to reduce the player's percentage, because it's so much money. They have a cash-cow right now and want to limit how much the players are getting. And believe me, no team gives a rat's butt whether a weaker team is losing money. They only care that their own team is making money. So the owners of successful teams are not going to be too impressed with any revenue sharing no matter how much Kumbayah they sing in the press. But protecting weak teams is the rationale that they will tell the press for why they need to lower player expenses.

But back to my main point. They're fighting about how much they get from the ever-ballooning cash cow that is the NHL right now. New TV deals, lots of exposure, the league is actually doing quite well. So, if they kill a season or severely hamper one, that balloon is going to deflate. And it's going to deflate a whole lot, maybe set the league back 5-6 years. That means a lot less money for everyone.

I think we might lose a month or two, but I think that we'll have hockey by Christmas.

not just us, but it is more exciting seeing GMs scramble to become cap compliant. ala Chicago after their cup run.

Let's spark some conversation.

Michael Del Zotto - trade, offer sheet..?

According to TSN the Rangers are offering 2.2-2.5 per season on his new deal. I have to think the guy is worth significantly more. However, I doubt the Rangers are going to pay him more than their 1st pairing LD, Marc Staal. Obviously, the Rangers want to keep the guy but at which point does it make more sense just to let him go? While I don't necessarily see Murray as trying to poach other team's players, at which price point does it take for the Rangers to let him walk and still make financial sense for the Sens to acquire him?

Within the Sens structure (and that of most other teams) I would imagine he would be potentially a solid #3, 2nd pairing, 1st pp unit LD.

Thoughts?

They'll sign him... They did the same thing with Dubinsky and Callahan. It took till the brink of training camp to sign both those guys after their entry-level deals so I see the same thing happening with MDZ

Tha players and owners all know the end deal - a new CBA with the Cap reduced to 50%-54% of league revenue - so there shouldn't be a lockout because everybody knows where the figures will sit.

If the NHL owners want to roll back salaries, that is a completely different issue.

Yup. The owners will get what they want in the end and it'll be closer to 50 as it seems fair. The sooner the players realize this the better it is.

See Crosby, Malkin, Ovie will be fine. It's the 3/4 line pluggers with mortgages that will be caving around December/January that will have an impact on the union.

I really like him as a player. I wonder what it would take in terms of a trade. New York would math everything

NYR traded Erixon, they're not getting rid of MDZ.

Really? I'd be extremely iffy on dealing Zibby for Del Zotto when we already got EK/Cowen/Ceci.

We have a lot of young forward potential.

You can move a piece for a sick young defenseman

Good read on Turris posted on the Sens website today. Not sure if it's already been posted but glad to see he's enjoying his time with the Sens and the city of Ottawa thus far.

I just remember a lot of posters saying how he needs to work on his strength. So it's good to hear that's exactly what he's been doing this summer.

Didn't 6thSense say that Turris said he wants to score 30 goals next year?

It's in the article above saying he believes he can be a 30 goal scorer.

Possible but very unlikely.

49 goals doesn't NOT = 50 goal scorer

Im not saying hes going to be a 30 goal scorer in the upcoming season. In the future i see no reason he cant.

For something as big as 50 goals no but for something small and not talked about 29 is close enough to consider it 30.
