Looks like they'll go with a 6 man rotation for now.

Quote:
Clint Hurdle said after the game that they will slide Kevin Correia into the rotation moving forward and will currently go with a six-man rotation.

They stack up as follows: A.J. Burnett on Saturday, Erik Bedard Sunday, Jeff Karstens Monday, Kevin Correia Tuesday, Wandy Rodriguez Wednesday and McDonald Thursday.

Not a big fan of taking starts away from AJ.

Completely agree. What sense does that make, you limit starts for Jmac while also limiting starts for AJ?

I'm pretty sure the Pirates lineup would look a lot prettier with Manny Machado and Matt Wieters in it.

Oh well. Hopefully Jameson Taillon works out.

Yea, Burnett should definitely get Jmac's Thursday start. Every game it seems like the Pirates need to score at least 10+ runs to win his stars now.

would it be reasonable to have a 6 player rotation but play AJ every 5 games?

At least Wieters, who would help today. Barajas, although seemingly a great guy, is done. The only starts that he gets if I'm the skipper is A.J's and an occasional off day for the Fort.

That was a cluster****. I had tickets, and everything was awesome for about 15 minutes there. I think the loss goes to the pitchers, especially JMac who just completely fell apart after 3 very good innings, and also Hurdle, who left JMac in the game for too long. JMac needs to come out of the rotation and work on his issues in the bullpen. I really don't like the six man rotation, and if we didn't have AJ Burnett in the rotation as a stopper, I'd be worried that we just witnessed Jerry Meals 2012 edition.

On the plus side, Marte continues to do very well, and Snider is also looking like he should be in there everyday. Pedro had a bad at-bat in the first, but turned in a solid game including a very nice hit off a lefty to drive in two runs. At the time, I thought it was enough insurance to lock down a victory for sure, but then the Pirates let it get away from them. Completely inexcusable collapse for a team in a pennant race, but it's baseball and today has to be a new day. Hurdle looks like he has egg all over his face right now, after giving several starts to Harrison this week over Pedro for literally no comprehensible reason, leaving JMac in too long, and apparently being willing to just admit that he's playing Barajas and Barmes because they are veterans most of all given his actions last night. However, one thing I will give him credit for is the mentality of the clubhouse, starting fresh, etc. That begins anew tonight with AJ, because we need to settle in and grind out a series victory.

I'm fine for giving Harrison a game at third for a game when Pedro is starting to go cold, just to clear his head, but giving him a string of starts there is brutal.

Another thing is if you're going to give Harrison a start don't put him number 2. Put Walker back there if you have to. It's bad enough our leadoff hitter couldn't draw a walk if his life depended on it. We don't need a .230 hitter hitting right before our MVP. Walker got some really good pitches hitting ahead of Cutch.

I'm fine with Snider in the 2 spot though.

Burnett pitched a lot of innings lately. He's 35 so sooner or later, it will take a toll on him. 6 man rotation might be good thing for him even though he pitched so well.

It's that part of the season where it feels NOTHING is going our way. Gotta battle out here and keep moving forward.

I'm still just holding out for 81 wins. They're bound to have some rough patches. And headley is a beast... I wanted to get him so bad

No need, everyone is already starting settle in to the realization that the Buccos gave it a good run through July and, as a defensive mechanism, are already starting to talk Stillers.

it is pretty good timing to start talking stillers to be fair.

The wheels are falling off. Forced awful defensive plays all-around, the sign of a team that's way too tense.

Pedro looks lost, Cutch back to earth, middle relief falling part, Walker cooling off, starters all over the board...at least AJ will reel everything back in.....whoops.
