And a gutless pipsqueek ended our year(Reimer concussion). Why let our key players get hit? We aren't going anywhere this year but Orr stops teams from taking cheap shots and we can use him for some payback. At 7 min per game I doubt Komorov makes a huge difference.Let him come over and crack the team next year,he doesn't want to play in the AHL anyway.Just reality...

Except for the fact that Komarov isn't soft in any way.. He may not be a fighter but he will lay out other players.
The days of employing a player whose only purpose is to fight are long gone..
Why does he need to replace him? We don't exactly have a logjam of competent NHL caliber 4th liners.
I think your in pretty good shape if you can have the speed, physicality, tenacity and offensive flare of Komarov and Brown on your 4th line, behind 3 scoring lines.
Assuming the season is cancelled and we're planning for the 13/14 season (). For discussions sake lets say Burke and Carlyle entice Getzlaf to join them in Toronto. Let's also say Toronto lands a top 5 pick and decides to further bolster their blueline by drafting the big and bad Seth Jones to compliment offensive dynamo Morgan Rielly. Just because I'm in a good mood let's assume we trade Cody Franson, Jesse Blacker and a pick for Roberto Luongo and his albatross contract.
We let the following go in FA: Lombardi, Connolly, Steckel
We resign: Lupul, Bozak and our RFA's
We waive/amnesty buyout: Komisarek
Maybe a really stupid question because I haven't been on here in awhile but who's Jones and why is he on the second pairing? I feel if we had a spot like that open, the whole Schultz thing would have worked better in our favour.

Not a stupid question, but it was mentioned in the original post.
"Jones" refers to: Seth Jones. He is an 18 year old American defenseman projected to go anywhere from 1 to 3 in this years draft. At 6'4 205lbs he's a big boy and his mobility at his size is outstanding. He's physical, good offensively, smart positionally, a great skater.. He's truly the full package, and has the potential to be a franchise defenseman in the NHL one day. His father "Ronald 'Popeye' Jones" was a PWF in the NBA, playing 11 seasons and weighing it at a gargantuan 6'8 250lbs. Regardless of whether Jones is able to put on a few more inches, we could be discussing the next Pronger or Chara here..
I personally feel he could step into the NHL next year and make an impact.
If you'd get to choose to play in your (another) home country for $500 000 (tax free) and fly to away games or play for $62 500 and go by bus, which one would you take?
Apparently he will play in Moscow until the end of season, whether the lockout ends or not.

I think he comes back if the lokcout ends. He has 1 way deal, hasn't he? He was kept as a high-qualiy fourth line player even before he got to the NHL.. or as it turned out, the AHL. And I really mean high quality.. So no wonder if he does not find any special reason for himself to stay in the AHL.
BTW, now when leksa gave me a reason to write for the leafs board, I must ask, if Johnny Superbman is on the hfboards? At least he seems to be a big leafs fan.
This seems to be Komarov's tip of the hand that it's the NHL or nothing at all.
Strange considering just the other day he was talking about the difficulty of adjusting to the NA game, the speed and quicker decision making he had to adjust to.
I have hopes he can be an effective 4th liner, but it sounds like his ego may prevent him from ever solidifying a roster spot.
Management and coaching would look more highly at him if he showed more loyalty to the organization.
Then again, ownership and players may have costed him his shot with us.
I think he won't make the roster(when there is a season again). Will just pack up and play in the KHL. Wait until his Leafs contract expires then sign somewhere else where he is guaranteed a one-way, no-move contract.
Not that I blame him during a lockout, but man he was just starting to get into a groove so it's unfortunate not to see him stick around a bit more.
Hopefully he returns again someday when the lockout ends. It does allow for other younger players to get more of a look now though (fixing some of the log jam of forwards).
Makes sense. From the games I got to watch he was always one of the better players on the ice. He'll be 26 in January, and will be RFA at end of season.
I suspect he'll be back, and these games will facilitate his transition to the NHL next year.

using his big frame to create space and his skating ability to find open lanes to drive the net. He stands 6-3 and is a natural goal scorer with plenty of confidence.
He's a scout's dream in the way he prepares himself and plays an unselfish game, making smart decisions with the puck. With his bloodlines, he certainly understands what it will take to make it at the next level.
Seems like Leo wants the option to come back if the lockout ends based on Paul Hendrick's tweets. Also seems he had the option all along in his contract to return to the KHL.
Komarov said that it would be honour and dream come true to play in Maple Leafs. So he will be back next year in NHL and I think he will be much better too.

Surely the Marlies fly to away games and only take a Bus when it's reasonable.

as I know he does not have contract with Maple Leafs for 2013/14.

They fly when bussing is just not feasible. For example, they flew out to Abbotsford and then on down to Texas. but generally take the bus more often than not.
