Sjostrom and Hanson - today

Sjostrom plays for Frölunda HC of the Elitserien. SWedeN

not a great season 5 points in 20 games.

C. Hanson (THN)

Quote:
ASSETS: Has very good size, an NHL-caliber release and the versatility to play both wing and center. Can be industrious and responsible in his own zone.
FLAWS: Doesn't use his massive 6-3 frame to bang bodies and impose himself physically enough. Lacks consistency on offense. Must find his NHL niche.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Big versatile depth forward.
21 points with Hershey (now playing in the Bruins' organization) in 52 games.

Any regrets?

I think you need a bigger picture of Christian Hanson. I couldn't quite make it out.

Kind of... I like Hanson. Thought he would be a valuable 4th liner, but it's not a big loss.

No what we have now is just as good if not better those depth forwards are easy to come by in free agency.

Not a big loss by any means.

Though, I did wish we tried Hanson with Bozak for a significant amount of time. I remember we had the Frat Pack line in pre-season that looked great, but Ronnie boy never tried it in regular season except for a few games at the end of '09-'10. They actually looked pretty good too and Stalberg and Hanson both started produce when playing with Bozak. But then Stalberg was traded away, and Hanson never got much of another chance with the team (though I, and some others felt like he should've at least made the roster out of training camp in '10-'11, he had a very good camp IIRC). Hanson always looked best on Bozak's wing. But anyway his AHL production seems to have regressed so he'll be lucky to even be a 4th liner.

So you decide to make a thread at 3 a.m. about two players that will never play in the NHL again?

Get some sleep.

Hanson yes. I would've liked to keep him for the 4th line. He's a solid player. Replaceable but still a solid 4th line presence

Both were replaceable but Sjostrom sure as hell did try in his time here.

i liked both players. i thought CH had a shot at being an NHLer. his ceiling might have been a 3rd line forward, but most likely going to be a 4th liner. Sjostrom DID play hard in his short time with the leafs.

Meh... spare parts that are easy to replace. Might as well flip them as much as you can until you find someone exceptionally good in that role.

The Sjostrom we had for the rest of the season after the trade was completely different from the one we saw the next season, imo.

If we had the first version the entire time, yeah, I'd probably have a few regrets. As is? Nope.

I liked Sjostrom defensively and on the PK and regretted losing him after the 10/11' season. I never thought much of Hanson though, not good enough offensively to be top 6 and not good enough defensively to be bottom 6.

Sjostrom only asset is penalty killer and 4th liner or extra forward.

Hanson is completely useless and a career AHLer.

No regrets.

Sjostrom played very well defensively and on the PK when he was acquired with Phaneuf. After Wallin left his play tailed off a bit. Still a decent NHL 4th liner though.
