Question for the CBA / cap experts: if Holmgren has to have Lilja euthanized, does his 35+ cap hit still count? Then again, Holmgren would probably maintain that Lilja is day-to-day.

No, not if he's on LTIR, same as Pronger.

I can't imagine playing with any sort of hip injury, I had a partially torn labrum I put off for 2 years, some days I couldn't even walk.

He was only going to be the 7th defenseman regardless.

Timonen - Schenn
Coburn - Grossman
Gustaffson - Gervais.

Tim P.'s column on CSN:

http://www.csnphilly.com/hockey-phil...585&feedID=695

Quote:
Lilja told the paper he might not be able to return until December – four months.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren doesn’t agree.

“He did have surgery [and] should be back late October or early November,” Holmgren texted CSNPhilly.com on Sunday afternoon.

Last week, the Flyers announced that Andrej Meszaros would be out indefinitely following a tear to his right Achilles tendon. Meszaros likely will miss most, if not all, of the regular season.

Sources said then that Meszaros’ realistic goal was to be healthy for the playoffs.

Given the CBA negotiations, the NHL is facing a lockout. No one knows whether there will be a season.

The only silver lining for Holmgren is that a lockout gains the Flyers some recovery time.

Right now, the defense looks like this _ our pairings and not necessarily coach Peter Laviolette’s: Kimmo Timonen-Braydon Coburn; Nick Grossmann-Erik Gustafsson; Luke Schenn-Marc-Andre Bourdon; 7th: Bruno Gervais; 8th: Brandon Manning.

Injured: Meszaros, Lilja and Chris Pronger

We are seriously going to have atrocious D this year. Bryz is going to look even worse than last year thanks to all these injuries and failure to obtain Weber.

This

with that said the Flyers lost a little more depth. MAB could very well still be hurt or have a relapse. In which case we may see Walker/Manning/Lauridsen at some point during the course of the season. Then again we may not have a season at all

Timonen - Coburn
Grossmann - Gustafsson
Schenn - Bourdon
Gervais - (Manning)

That's basically what I said, and I'm okay with it. It's better than most of the armageddonists around here fear.

Do contracts carry over if there is a lockout, or would the lockout eat up some folks last year (Kimmo, Shelley, Lilja, etc)?

If there is a full season lost, it likely will be determined by the revised CBA. The last lockout, the year lost in a contract counted as a season played. If there is a reduced season, then, common sense would dictate that the players' pacts would be honored by both parties.

The Flyers are going to have to be forced to win 7-6 type of games all year in order to stay afloat...... but they arent playing hockey until at least December anyways .

Not if Bryzgalov comes with half the talent we know he possesses.

Hell, we might as well put Leighton in as the starter if Bryz is going to play like **** every month outside of March.

Lilja all of a sudden has pain in his hip this summer after it went away every off season before this one. Injured players like him and Mez get paid if there is a lockout. I call BS on this one.

If we can have a goalie who doesn't allow 1-3 terrible goals per game for 5 months of the season it will really, really help the defense. I mean...obviously . People really sold the D short because of Bryz's bad goals last year. It's not the D's fault that they had to play flawlessly to keep the puck out of the net.

Actually, he wouldn't get paid if there's a lockout. He'd get his salary between october and april if there's a season. He doesn't have a signing bonus so he isn't automatically given that

Injured players cannot be locked out, and are therefore paid during lockouts. Signing bonus would depend on what date it is due.
