1 gold, 5 silver, and 12 bronze is disappointing.

We had three gold and 18 medals overall in the last Olympics.

It's par for the course for Canada...what were you expecting?

You only brought Canada up because you've had something against us since a random soccer game. Rather jejune if you ask me...

USSR is not under the same flag to me. ex-USSR athletes took 47 gold 44 silver and 67 bronze medals as it would be 158 medals in total

If I had something against canada, I would have named any of the soccer players not named Sinclair as the most disappointing athlete. Like another poster posted, the 1 gold medal is the least for canada since 1976.

I'm sure the only thing Canada will be disappointed with is the color of some of the medals but not the total amount of medals which was an expected total. Although, I'm sure there are/were some unwarranted expectations due to their success in the Vancouver games but Canada spent a TON of money on their athletes for the cycle heading into Vancouver and obviously Canada is better suited for success in the Winter Olympics anyway.

No one cares about this women's soccer crap.

Also the only reason the US won is because C. Ronaldo didn't play for Portugal.

Yes, but Australia put A LOT of money into sports, more than Canada if I'm not wrong. It also helps that the Aussies are a powerhouse in swimming which has many different races and therefore more chances of medals. Most of them live along the coast so swimming is like walking for them like skating is for many Canadians. They also have the weather to train all-year round.

Having said that, Canada disappoints for sure and there is no excuse for being so low in the ranking. We will never be a top 5 nation like Australia were, but we should definitely be better than we are now.

Is there really a huge difference between one and three that we need to label it a disappointment when they matched the total overall medals won in Beijing?

Again, Canada typically wins two or three gold medals at the summer games...we still won 18 medals overall and continue to make progress in sports in which we have no business winning (soccer, for instance).

As a Canadian, I'm not disappointed. The amount of money Canadians spend (government and non-government) on our athletes is nothing compared to many other nations.

And congrats to the USA on getting most golds and medals.

As for Canada's soccer team being dirty, it seemed pretty even in the dirty department to me.

'1/3' is irrelevant when the total is already too small.

And you're essentially comparing a drop from 3 to 1 the equivalent of a drop from 180 to 60. I sincerely hope you understand how obtuse your vacuous arguments are becoming.

The host nation with no gold medals? That must be embarassing...

His injury is extremely serious, how can he be a disappointment? It's pretty hard to win a medal with only one leg, ya know...

Lochte for me: mind you, not bad Olympics for him but given his claims I expected him to destroy Phelps, world records and get all gold medals. Well, it didn't exactly work for him...

Kenya was a disappointment too: Ethiopia beat them 9 times out of 10 it seems... and not only them.

Australia swimming: bad Olympics for them, didn't match their expectations.

Italy swimming: overall, complete fail. The bronze in the women's 10km marathon has nothing to do with the shameful showing of Pellegrini & Co.

Yes, the Vancouver olympics were the first time Canada won a gold in an olympiad that they hosted

Canada usually sucks in the Summer Olympics. 1 gold isn't that much worse than 3.

Lochte was definitely a disappointment. Whether or not he controls his own hype, he still didn't live up to it.

Hard to blame him for that when he isn't a great 100m freestyle swimmer in the first place (by US standards) and Agnel is top 5 in the world. Lochte didn't even make it to the finals of the 100 free at the US trials. Seems like the US just wanted to give Lochte another chance at a Gold to play up his rivalrly with Phelps, when in reality Matt Grevers would have given them a better chance to win the relay.

I don't know if you can consider Lochte a disappointment considering he had more gold by himself then some countries have total.

Huh? The fact that he got injured is why it was disappointing, just like Beijing.
