not surprised .... Someone gives an answer that is reasonable & you just ignore it so you can continue to bark on our offense to in continued support Luongo.
It may be "c'est la vie" but thats how the playoffs work though & thats why its a saying after all... Not every top team in the Regular Season is going to win the cup, remember there is only 1 winner every year & I'm sure numerous teams feel & say the same thing. Its not like we are the first team to be great in the regular season & not do anything in the post season.... except we've been to a game 7 of the Finals, thats more then most teams can say. (Like Wsh or Sj)
Exactly. If you buy into the team philosophy, as the players seem to, it's all about process. It isn't matter of "c'est la vie" because no one wants this outcome, but dismissing causes makes no more sense than dismissing effects. The biggest team need was not on offense, but in adding a top-4 dman, which we did, and fine with that as a basis heading into the season, especially when we have Kassian with room to grow, Schroeder pushing for a spot, and a Luongo trade yet to happen.
I agree with basically all your points 100% except this one.
I would have gladly paid the asking price for Roy, Rebeiro, or Semin this offseason. I feel all three address a team need and were moved for not that much (or in Semin's case just money).
There is no such thing as just money any more. That died the year a cap was introduced. Semin would squeeze out $7m worth of other players, the question is "which $7m?"? Ballard and Raymond are only $6.7m, Semin + 1.5m D is $8.5m, so who else gets squeezed out? Malhotra for Desbien? Then you have the whole CBA vs cap - if the cap comes down just $3m - Semin at $7m is suicide.
The biggest disappointment for me was Schultz. We made our pitch, offered him the same money, but he wanted to join a youth team with easy roster time. There is nothing Gillis can do about that short of selling off every veteran we had and building a roster that could get the #1 overall pick.
We got the best Dman available to us (2nd best overall) given Suter was not an option.
Weber was never for sale. We missed out on Weber about as much as we missed out on Erik Karlsson. We missed out on Weber about as much as we missed out on Crosby and Malkin. People need to get over "missing out" on Weber.
Doan was always a long shot, the only reason he was ever "in play" if he ever really was, was due to Phx ownership issues. He was just using us as pressure on Phx.
Garrison + Shultz would have made my offseason as far as UFAs go but just Garrison by himself is still solid. If we go into the playoffs with the current top 9 I'll be disappointed as we still need a 2/3C and/or a top 6 winger - those players were always more likely to come via trade than UFA. Gillis has until the trade deadline to make that move (assuming we have a season), we are fine for the regular season with what we have now.
I'd easily take Semin+assets from Ballard+Raymond for Ballard+Raymond. I think that's a trade everyone would make twice. Not to mention you're forgetting the 5.3MM player that will be gone.
I just don't think Gillis was ever at all interested in him though. Or at least didn't feel like the risk would pay off in which I would disagree..

& We're always fine for the regular season.
We should have made a legit offer for Semin. A lot of the hate he gets is unjustified. Plus a longer term would have been less likely to hurt us than Doan.

I think Gillis would do his homework and decide for himself. Even if we were interested, we don't have a single Russian on the team. I have a feeling that would be a problem for Semin.
Why are people talking about Quick vs. Luongo in a series where Luongo only played 2 games? How could that matchup be "all it took" when it consisted of less than 40% of the series?
Schneider outplayed Quick and he still lost 2 of 3 because his team couldn't generate any offense. That suggests to me that the vital edge in play was outside of the net.
Okay. Our forward group and defense corp are both slightly better. Quick-Schneider was a wash in the playoffs, but assuming the same play from them we are better.

Because it was troll post meant for y2k. That's what this board has become...almost as laughable as CDC.

I think their forwards are better. I think our defensive depth is better but they have the better dman and that goes a long way. Also Quick has shown more than Schneider. And played that well for a longer period of time. I'd give him the edge albeit I believe they'll be much closer this season.
