Marc Savard Done

According to Savard's twitter he has not mentioned working out in preparation for training camp has made no mention of returning to the team and is currently on vacation so i would expect he might make an official announcement soon that he is offically done.

Awards:
When his contract expires or he gets an insurance settlement .
Anything short of that would be moronic.

When his contract expires. Until then, he would be foolish not to keep it open and collect checks.

And this is news?

He's not going to retire until his deal is up. Otherwise he leaves a ton of money on the table.

I think he'll be ready by playoffs.

Why would he work out now, he knows there will be a lockout.

Plus I am not sure it is in the best interest of the Bruins either. I think they are perfectly contet with him being on LTIR

The deal was heavily frontloaded. He might retire a year early. If the teams close to the cap its possible.

Wonder if he gets paid if theres a lockout? I assume no.

Your thread should at the very least have the word "speculation" in the title.

Savard isn't going to give up his salary by saying he is done, no way, no how.

I would imagine he will stay on LTIR until his contract is over or if insurance covers his salary at the same rate as he is getting paid now(I don't think that is a possibility in most cases).

Wouldn't all of us do the same thing?

His last 3 seasons have pretty underwhelming salaries. They can at least convince him to retire before the last 2 (minimum NHL salary). So he can probably easily afford to officially retire in 2014, 2015 at the latest.
But he will not be retiring as long as his salary is between $5-7 million.

You assumed incorrectly. Players on injured reserve will get paid during a lockout.

That's why the Islanders activated Rick DiPietro last week, so they wouldn't have to pay him during a work stoppage.

As for Savard, this thread is about a year to late.

Well, sans the inherent speculative nature herein, and the fact the this is probably on its way toward deletion, Savvy will always have a special place in my heart. For me, as a comparatively younger fan, he was the first great playmaker I ever had the opportunity to watch on a regular basis apart from Thornton, and I loved him from the second he joined the team for one reason or another. Kind of had a crush on him, actually. Granted, he was somewhat lazy at times when it came to those little things B's fans rave about, he gave me a ton of faith in this team for the time he was playing. Every time he hit the ice I felt something great had the chance of occurring, and I've never had the opportunity to watch a player of that caliber in my time as a regular fan of the team up until very recently. First jersey I ever owned, aside from Lars Jonsson (lawl).

Much respect to this guy.

Is Savard on IR though? I didn't think he was last year.

This. This isn't even speculation.

If he plans on coming back it is going to be in a couple seasons after he knows he feels 100%. He is in no rush and he is still getting paid now.

I remember watching him put up 5 points in one game while he was with the flames. I was in high school at the time, watching the game from the nosebleeds with a couple of buddies.

He was quite a player, and developed into something special after the flames traded him for Ruslan Zainullin who never played in the NHL. I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for him as well.

No crush though
