Ugh

Great job by the Habs.

It's unfortunate that the mickey mouse days of Gauthier are behind them, they led to serious hilarity.

What? The Habs didn't overpay for a guy? Wow, I'm impressed.

Is it Christmas already ?
Awesome deal by Bergevin
I would offer a similar deal to Desharnais , just less money . Something like 5-6 years whit a 3.5 cap hit

If Skinner was a good deal, and Tavares was a bargain; what does the Pacioretty contract get coined?

Good job Habs!

The guy is already well worth that cap hit, if he keeps improving though, this is a huge steal.

Even as a Hab hater..this contract is like a steal of epic proportions. I'd peg it one level below Giroux's steal of the century contract.

I hate Bergevin He's showing that he's a good GM.

I have to think that having seen firsthand how quickly a career can end might have influenced his decision.

About 2 weeks ago I was on a flight to NYC and Patch was sitting literally behind me, in economy class. Now I know why! Guy can't afford business class after this contract!

Max Pacioretty is now the youngest (23years, 8mths, 24 days) NHL forward to make $4M+, after Steven Stamkos (21). Beats P. Kane by 1 day.

It's really not a big deal. It effects the ability to improve the team. If max's agent admits the discount is to help the team(not the owners) then why even bother with this discussion? I agree it's overstated and overanalyzed but saying it means nothing is wrong.

Except he's got a year left on his current deal and will be making 4mil+ NEXT year when he's 24 and nearly 25.

Great deal. Bergevin has done a fantastic job so far to get this great organization back to where it belongs. Long gone are Gainey's absurd trades and Gauthier's circus. Let,s give this 2-3 years and we should enjoy a legitimate contender.
The Habs are back.

ffs...a guy is making 4.5 million per year!! omg he's gonna have to budget really hard and count those pennies!

I like this from players. When you're already earning millions, who cares about an extra million or two? It's refreshing. You dont have to make the most money, even if you're the best player in the world. Who cares? You'll make good money and you can also decide where you'd like to stay rooted.

I hate it when a guy sees another player who produced less than him sign a deal that makes him more dough, so then he wants to renegotiate because he feels like he should make more. Sit back and relax, it's gonna be ok when you're making 4.5 per.

Like the absurd trade that brought us Josh Gorges and the guy this thread is all about for a trash Craig Rivet ?

Fans care because lesser players are receiving just as much as Pacioretty will when comparable players to his level of skill could have gotten more and it gives the Habs more space below the cap to work with so they have the ability to improve their team. It's incorrect to believe that the 4.5 mil doesn't help the Habs become a better team.

It's not a Gainey thread but I agree. He was fantastic until the end when he got Gomez. Even gionta and cammy werent bad signings just was very short sighted way to build a team. He gets a lot of crap because of it but before that he stockpiled big time. Gauthier was sort of the same, gets a bad rep but just a terrible leader for the organization. I don't think people respected him. Gainey and Bergevin are much better communicators. Of course, it's a new era and we should not be talking about the past.

holy crap that's an amazing deal for the Habs. I am jealous. Max is a hell of a player. He must like playing in Montreal because I feel he could have gotten more if he wanted it.
