Dustin Penner

What is his worth?

He is coming off of a 17 point season, but a reasonable playoff run.

I feel like a 2nd and a 3rd is the value for a player who has been considered lazy and given his poor performance throughout the season.

What do you think? What is his worth?

Right now he is not available.
He signed a new contract and was a beast in playoff, plus we are short on winger.

If someone wants him the start would be a 1st +

A 17 point player isn't worth as much as you are suggesting he is worth but a 30 goal scorer is worth more, the problem is that there is no way to tell which guy will show up.

I would err on the side of caution and only offer a 2nd or better yet a mid level prospect and that is all.

I feel like these are to polarizing opinions. This is why I include the 3rd as well. I feel like he can't be worth 1st. let alone a plus on top of that first.

This is a fiction. His shiny new contract almost becomes irrelevant, given the fictional scenario I am positing here.

His playoff performance earned him a second chance with the Kings. Would rather wait and see how he performs under a full season with Sutter behind the bench as opposed to trading a forward for picks.

I appreciate your diplomatic answer. If someone was to present themselves and say they were interested in moving Dustin Penner. Let's say for arguments sake it was the Phoenix Coyotes, In i don't know a game like NHL 13. Would a 2nd and a 3rd be a more then fair offer?

Having seen him play for the Oilers for a few years I would say this is beyond fair. Probably generous.

Right now the kings have 6 lws for 4 spots maybe 5 one being a reserve player. brown is the kings number one lw no questions asked Then the kings just resigned penner for a reasonable rate so i dont think hes available at all. next is king and clifford both well suited for bottom 6 duty. Richardson does play all 3 forward postitions and can be the extra forward playing spot duty The person i feel that would be avialable is gagne However his value is really low considering he was injuryed most of last season. He did have off season surgry and says he feels the best hes felt in years however this doesnt mean alot till he plays. I think if u want to offer i would want at least a high 2nd and prospect

And being rid of his ex. I think that really took a toll on him.

Really? Last I heard they got divorced and then he started playing his best hockey of the season. I maybe wrong, but IMO it's no coincidence that once he got hitched to her his play started to tail off in Edmonton and it drug into this season.

If the Kings won't trade him for a 2nd and a 3rd then he must be worth more to that than them. Yet, no other team will offer more, so here lies the problem. It is very difficult to gauge the worth of a player in Penner's situation, so why ask? You will get conflicting results from every different party. I think it's fair to see, Penner likely has more "worth" to LA than to anyone else.

It all depends on which Penner you are after.

Bad Penner is a waiver pick up, good Penner is worth considerably more.

Penner wont be traded. He just accepted a pay cut to come back to the Kings for another year and prove himself.

I anticipate he's going to get 25+ goals this year on a line with Carter & Richards.

Then get another $4M+/year contract, either with the Kings or elsewhere.

Jeremy Roenick, Dan Cloutier, Marc Crawford, Randy Jones, Jason LaBarbera, Terry Murray. Just off the top of my head. Penner made us disappointed, more than anything. You're running out of axe to grind.
