You Hurricanes fans are nuts if you think you can pry Staal out of New York for anything short of Skinner+

Wait...what?

Yikes. No thanks. Rangers get much worse.

Are you sure you're a NYR fan?

didn't mean to. Bourque is a sure 20 goal scorer and you'll need him until Gaborik comes back and brings size. He also brings depth to your team for a long playoff run. Weber brings depth to defense as a 6th defensemen plus a good shot on the powerplay. He is good in positioning in his zone, but doesn't bring physicality, but plays with heart every game. Kristo is a decent prospect that could become a 20 goal scorer. Our second round pick could turn out to be a high one in a deep draft. Isn't Staal your 3rd or 4th defensemen ? You keep McD, DZ and Girardi (And I know Bourque doesn't land any of them).

What about Bourque, Emelin, Kristo and a 2nd round pick for Staal ?

Emelin can be a #4 to #5 d-man while bringing a very physical game.

No Bourque is an overpaid player who was dumped by the Flames due to his lack of consistency and soft play. He won't play on the top 6 even if Gaborik is injured.

Weber is a depth d-man, while he would be nice, it doesn't make sense moving a top pairing d-man for him.

Kristo could become a 20g scorer if everything works out. We have comparable prospects to him in the minors.

And no, Staal is the team's 2nd best d-man when healthy. It makes no sense for a contending team to trade him for scraps.

Not a chance. You're looking at Subban coming the other way.

The point of trading for Staal would be to put him with Subban and put Gorges with Markov, but I guess it won't work out. If Montreal trades Subban for Staal, it would only be because Subban doesn't want to sign in Montreal, which isn't the case. I thought Staal was your #3 or #4 D-Man. Fair enough. It won't happen.

Staal is mainly number 3 only because of his injury. His injury set him back and allowed McDonagh to shine like the sun. A healthy Staal is any team's 2nd D-Man easily. His shut down abilities are phenomenal and he skates and can move the puck. If Subban couldn't be involved I'd say anything else that we could think up would have to be over pament. imo

Couldnt have said it better myself.

Those extremely homer NYR fans will end up demanding more until Skinner is included. Marc staal is obviously important to a team that just had their best season in like two decades. So dismantling their best team since they won the cup does seem outlandish. Trading away top tier offensive talent from a finesse-style-of-play team is a completely different matter.

Marc Staal plays a lot better on the 2nd pairing that's for sure. He's a very good #3 and a servicable top pairing defenseman for me, but I' haven't watched him as much as Rangers fans obviously.

This^.
More importantly only so many assets so if traded, prefer Staal + for a better player like Evander Kane.

Then let Jets + Cqnes cut their own deal for Marc.

Serviceable. Before the injury which he has fully recovered from he was an all star and widely regarded as one of the top 5 shutdown D in the league. He's a lot better than serviceable. What an insult.

You think the Canes have to add to Skinner for Staal?

I think the + went on the wrong end of that one...

Seriously... Can't we just close any 'Staal to Carolina'-threads - doesn't matter if they come from Rangers-, Canes- or any other fans.

It just doesn't work.
Not for Carolina.
And definitely not for the Rangers.

Every time I see CAR and NYR in a thread title, I pre-emptively

The OP's offer is not completely insane, though. It's not going to work, for reasons we have all heard too many times, but it is a decent value of two young top-4 dmen going back to NYR.

I believe that evens the count to:

2 Ranger fans
2 Canes fans
2 miscellaneous fans

So, since Jordan was traded to Carolina, six "Marc Staal to Carolina" topics. All of them horrible.

Skinner is the only somewhat realistic player I'd trade Staal for. Really Canes fans, you're trying to buy a house that's not for sale. The offer has to be extremely good.

edit: Oh God, the TC is a RANGERS fan???
