Yes. The guy is still an NHL defenseman. He's not someone you would include in your core, but he would still be a very serviceable bottom pairing guy for a lot of teams in the league. His biggest problem is trying to live up to the huge deal that he signed in Toronto.
he was one of my favourite players when he played with Montreal. Id take him, for cheap mind you, but he used to be a pretty good DMan
Playing with Markov most certainly helps. But they complemented each other really really well. The thing is right now we have Emelin to fill the role he used to have in montreal: the real punishing defenseman. I don't think Montreal needs any 4-6 defensemen. For all I know, what they need is a real 1st line forward to play with Plekanec all year long, insted of playing with him for 10 games before being switched for a 4th line player like Kostopoulos and Darche (with all the respect that I have for these two players).
DD-Cole-Pacioretty is a great offensive line, but if Montreal wants to succeed they don't need Komisarek, they need a forward.
Don't worry, I know you didn't mean he is what Montreal needs most, I just wanted tu say it :p
He's not bad. He masqueraded as a top pairing D when he was next to Markov. Markov basically single handedly got him his big contract. I think he's probably somewhere in the 2.5-3M range as far as his real value, I think he's definitely still a fringe top 4 guy but his contract makes him look far worse than he really is.
What does his contract have anything to do with how people perceive him on the ice. He is awful in both ends, especially in his own end. Terrible fighter, his shot is a floater, slow as hell, terrible passer, low hockey IQ. Only thing he has going for him is he can throw a decent hit but even still, he misses 50% of the time leading to a scoring chance.
Note: He was a healthy scratch on many occasions on the 5th worst team in the NHL. Even Luke Schenn who was having a terrrrible year was still better/getting more ice-time than Komi.
