Sharks for me, bit surprised at the early lead the Wings built up here

Yeah, that`s a bit surprise given that they were tied in the first poll.

Definitely Detroit. Should have won the first poll too. All of the nailbiting and hard fought playoff series are greater than any rivalry that's only there because of location.

Yup. That's like saying the Lakers' biggest rivals are the Clippers because of proximity. We all know that's false. But the converse is true: the Clippers' biggest rivals are the Lakers. That's because the Clippers were never a true winning organization and the Lakers always have been. Thus the only rivalry that can develop for the Clippers who rarely have playoff appearances are the Lakers.

Surprised at Red Wings here. I know we have more playoff series with the Red Wings than most teams, but the Sharks are a div rival, we upset them 3 years ago, and every time we play them there's always some bad blood between us.

I disagree. The Ducks and Sharks (maybe not in the past couple seasons) have a history of playing a playoff series every regular series. Meaning the intensity of the games playoffs or not are high. I think that plus being divisional and intrastate rivals puts them ahead of both the Kings and the Wings. In other words, The Wings have playoff intensity during the playoffs, but aren't divisional rivals. And the Kings lack the intensity, but are close and divisional rivals. But the Sharks have both intensity and divisional rival status.

Sharks.

No team gets under Anaheim's skin, or vice versa, like Detroit.

That's what I was going to say.

When you see Corey Perry fighting Datsyuk or Rafalski, you know there's bad blood between the teams.

My favorite games this year were shutting out Detroit at home for the first time in over a decade(thanks, Kyle), and forcing them into a shootout at Joe Louis - putting their home winning streak in jeopardy.

And as others pointed out, the guys that never fight in Detroit will fight when they play us. I think that speaks volumes.

Detroit drew with SJ in the first poll and both were behind LA, not really sure about that.

So using the logic most people are using, that the playoffs make rivals, then the Red Wings are rivals with half the league. They've made the playoffs 20 years going. It feels like a lot of you sound like that one girl that says that a "playboy" loves her instead of the dozens of other women he sleeps with.

To me a real rivalry goes two ways, and I just don't feel that the Wings consider the Ducks as big a rival, as the Ducks fans consider the Wings a rival.

I disagree with the first part. I think Wings ussuallly don`t have series against others like they have (had) against us. So intense and hate.

Totally agree on the 2nd part though.

I'll reiterate the whole proximity bit by using the NBA. The Clippers view the Lakers as their rivals, but the Lakers could care less about the Clippers. They play in the same building!!! For the Lakers fans, it's Boston. I'm a Clippers fan and have only distaste for the Lakers, mainly their fans who not surprisingly act like NHL Kings fans. But the Lakers are top rivals for many organizations.

I've never regarded the Kings as rivals. The Wings, definitely. Heck, I'd put the Flames up there before the Kings as well. We have a history of fighting with the Flames and King Beauch made sure there's a little bit of ownage on Ignila. Aside from finishing above the Sharks and Kings, I don't really see the animosity like I do with the histories vs the Wings and Flames.

I don't know if Wings fans hate Duck fans...but I'm pretty sure the players hate each other. Those mah****ers always stoop down to the Ducks level too...I love it.

Between 06-07 and 08-09 the Wings definitely considered us to be their rivals. Obviously since then we haven't been at the same level but there was a lot of hatred in those years. When you go back even earlier to the 02-03 year when we knocked them out in the first round I think you have a pretty good case to say we're their rival.

I'll go with the Wings. There's always a lot of hate in those games. Their fans probably would say that Ducks fans hate them, but they couldn't care less about the Ducks. But from what I've seen on HF, they can't stand Anaheim.
