Six Years

Why are all these contracts 6 years? Do they know something we don't? Maybe GMs are speculating that'll be the new max contract length?

wouldn't all the current contracts be grandfathered in anyways? so why would it make a difference?

An issue in the CBA is to cap ALL contracts at 4 or 5 years preventing teams from manipulating salary cap impact by stretching the salary out forever.

Seven years is the maximum term that a team can insurance on; if a player has a career-ending injury, the owner is on the hook for every year beyond the 7th.

Maybe 6 years is a good length for the player (he'll be in his prime when he becomes a UFA) and a good length for the team (they buy 2-4 of his UFA years at a reasonable cost)?

Didn't I hear on TSN that they're not going to put a max on contract lengths. That the owners hadn't requested it.

Recently off the top of my head Gorges, Price, Pacioretty and Simmonds.

Not a large sample size though, I agree.

Maybe Winnipeg is playing it safe, like they know the magic number is six, but they don't know if 6 is the max allowed or the minimum disallowed.

I'm sure they would be grandfathered. But let's say that the GMs knew the max length in the new CBA would be 6 years, why wouldn't they sign their good young players for contracts longer than that, since we are operating under the current CBA until it expires on September 15?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Enstrom signed to a 5 year extension that takes effect after his current deal ends after this coming season? If so he is under contract for the next 6 years.

mind = blown

Does seem like a weird pattern. Guess it's a good midpoint for both sides or something.

Maybe they anticipate a year-long lockout with the year being taken off the contract terms (length) the way it was last time, so they'll have actually have the players under contract for 5 years.

That's technically 5 seasons though and still 6 years.

And Luongo's value keeps going up.
this is strange. NHL thinks the world is gonna end in 6 years. Is it just me or is the world ending more often lately? I love conspiracies, one of my SIX-hundred of them. The other ones include obsessing over obsessions, goalies, and NCAA walk-on quarterbacks.

Did you know one billion lighters are sold in the USA each year?!??? What the hell! Do they include matches? Not that those are still relevant in this society where everything must work for six years. And what's the deal with airline food?

End rant

well they're gonna have to do something over the lockout! Why not NHL 12? or Zoidberg? Might as well get a head start.
