Dammit! Should've added a "mix" option. Oh well... don't cop out Volcheky! Pick one.

I don't think there is a guy. I think it's more about a core of 6-7 players.

If I have to single one guy out, no doubt Landeskog has a very infectious playing style that both encourages and demands effort from others.

I would agree with this.

I can't really single out 1 person...seems to be a mix of Duchene, Lando. Varly, EJ, O'Reilly, maybe Stastny too

Would be Duchene if I had to pick only one guy, but I agree with most guys saying it's about a core of Varly, EJ, Duchene, Landy and O'Reilly, maybe Stastny.

After last season it feels to me like Laneskog and O'Reilly. But it really feels like the organization badly wants EJ to be in there, too, but right now Landeskog and O'Reilly seem to be presenting the will to work and the desire to win, as well as the ability to lead and live up to their potential.

Duchene, O'Reilly, Landeskog, Johnson, Varlamov. Hopefully Stastny, but definitely the first five and if I had to pic one guy, it'd be Varlamov.

Now I love Varly, but there is no way he'd be the guy I'd build around. Having a great goalie is essential, but theres not many you build around. Carey Price and Lundqvist are the only one's I'd build around.

In Varl'y first 53 games in the NHL he had similar numbers to Lundqvist. Varly had a 2.32 GAA and a 0.916%, King Henrik had 2.24GAA and a 0.922%. I'm not saying varly will for sure be as good as Henrik but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I personally think Semyon has the best natural ability of any keeper in the league and he should be fighting Price for best goalie in the NHL for years to come. When it's all said and done I think Varly will end up being the best player on the team as well as most decorated.

I would echo this. EJ and Landeskog are the biggest keys. Varlamov will be up there once he develops mental consistency. If I had to choose a single player, however, it's Landeskog.

Someone else. I think there will be another high pick or trade/FA.

Well, I can't argue with that. BUT, I'm one who doesn't see him as a piece to build a championship team around (yet, I hope). We're talking the cloth from which guys like Bourque, Niedermayer, Pronger, Stevens, or even Weber, Keith, or Doughty are cut. Erik Johnson is not in the class of any of these players, sorry. He may get there one day. Avs front office may believe he will get there. Some fans may believe so as well. But right now, he's just not there. Now, are O'Reilly or Landeskog there yet either? No. But neither of those guys have regressed and disappointed, or fallen short of their expectations yet, either, which is what separates them in this discussion from EJ, for me at least.

This, it won't be built around a single guy but Landeskog is going to be the catalyst that makes things work.

Landeskog will be the heart of the team, he already showed signs of it last season

Tough to keep the faith with Duchene, when Landeskog inspires the kind of fervour that makes fans think he might soon be one of the best in the league...

I mean, maybe not, but maybe we ain't seen nothing yet.

You're right on that. He's not even Blake level player yet, but he's certainly got the potential. I think our biggest strength will be always offense.

My reasoning for Varlamov is that of all the "core" guys on the team, he's the one who would be hardest to replace. And I believe he will be the best goalie in the league in ~3 years (or one of the top 3 at least).
