Can't they just write off the charitable contribution?

Great stuff. Sports teams ought to put something back into the community through programs like these. Hats off to another classy act from a great organization

Nope. Tried that once with my restaurant. According to my CPA, businesses can't deduct charitable contributions the way individuals can. The contribution can be categorized as another expense, but not as a charitable contribution.

This year’s donation is a result of grants, fundraising efforts and in-kind donations by the Nashville Predators, including the Nashville Predators’ We Care for Kids game nights held this past season. On these nights, a portion of every single-game ticket sold and 100 percent of the silent-auction proceeds were donated back to Children’s Hospital. Donations were also collected at all Bridgestone Arena entrances before the games and throughout the building during those games.
Im sure it was the Preds Foundation, a non-taxpaying charity itself, that made the donation....most of the money wasnt the teams in the first place, they just collected it... but still very impressive..

It's the poor southern teams stereotype that causes that belief. Most knowledgable hockey fans who are secondary fans of a southern team know that most of the teams are stable financially, especially Nashville, Tampa, LA, Anaheim and San Jose. It's Phoenix, Florida and Atlanta that give/gave the south a bad name in hockey.

Good on Nashville. Classy organization, it's nice to see them giving to charity.

Yes, it was through the Foundation. I finally found some video of the check presentation and Nashville Predators Foundation was the donor.
