With Ellerby subject to being lost on waivers we could end up with only Matthias unless Ellerby stays on the Phantoms until he hits RFA. The Florida 2 are maybes while Read proved his worth last year.

To even cap hit/roster slots maybe something like:
To Flyers:
Ellerby
Matthias
2nd in 2013 (Flyers fans know Homer can't resist trading @ least 1 every year)

To Panthers:
Read
Lilja (injured but takes up a roster spot)
Take out Lilja and make it a 3rd in 2013 and I'd do that. The point of trading Ellerby is to get rid of a d-man on a 1-way contract, picking one up would be pointless

Replace Lilja with a 3rd-4th round pick or an AHL player and I would easily do this.

I wouldn't do it.

We already do not have a 3rd round pick in next years draft thanks to Wolski.

Giving up a 2nd round pick would mean the next time we pick would be the 4th round after our first round pick. So far, the 2013 class is deep in prospects. I would rather not give up too many high picks from that draft, if we can.

Can Read play center?

Edit: Not to mention when we had Strachan and Ellerby up due to injuries, when everyone got healthy, they sent down Strachan, even though he played with more confidence on the ice.
If anything, Strachan will be sent down again to the AHL and Ellerby might be the 7th guy if he can't beat out any of the guys on the blueline.

I would do the Wellwood version but Cats fans wouldn't (and I don't really blame them). Cats fans would seemingly do the Read version, but I wouldn't. Read's production at the price he's at make him vital to a cap team like Philadelphia.

I highly doubt Flyers move Read for Ellerby+.

I know it's been said a thousand times over but i still think the best trade between these two teams would be something around Read for McBain. Nothing else really makes sense IMO

Yes.
He was signed as a center iirc and played a little in the middle.
To little to rate his play there, imo.

Potential top 4 defensemen aren't what the Flyers need right now, especially at the expense of one of our best defensive/PK forwards.

We don't even want Read, we'll give you Matthias + Ellerby for free... just because you say so.

Have you just been going around Florida proposals and making sarcastic comments?

This would be nice. But firs i would something like this :

Wellwood+2/3 rounder to Ellerby

or

Gustaffson to Ellerby

or

Wellwood+Gustaffson+2nd rounder for Ellerby+Skille

or

Read+Gustaffson for Ellerby+Skille+3rd rounder

even close with these?

I'd do the last one easily. Even though Skille is a nice 4th line grinder we have about 10 of them on our team, we can do without him.

Possibly Wellwood straight up for Ellerby (remove the pick).

or

Wellwood & Gustafsson for Ellerby & Skille (again, no pick).

In both cases it's an exchange of injury replacements/call-ups/possibles.

It's true Ellerby was an early first rounder, but 2007 was a pretty shallow draft year (ask us, we know), so it's nothing to write home about. I haven't seen much at all of Ellerby lately, and would be leery giving up a player like Read who can play top-6 minutes (if need be) on the cheap.

Philly will not want to trade a player that makes less than 1 million per year, can play any forward position, is versitile enough to play on any line, can get 50 points, plays the PP and plays the PK. Read won't get trade thia year for sure. Now next year before he is a UFA...who knows.

Not sure how off the value is here, but I thought it seemed like an even trade from a neutral standpoint.

Flyers acquire Ellerby to give them depth on D, Ellerby could be a potential top 4 guy in the future with the right team. Panthers have no need for Ellerby due to having 7 D-Men signed to one way contracts coming into next season. Plus, Ellerby has gotten limited ice time as a Panther, hasn't shown his upside with them yet.

Panthers acquire Read to fill the 2C spot we have been looking for, Read would fit in well with Huberdeau and we would add more depth to the offense.

Thoughts?
no thanks. Read could be shipped off for a much better defender...
