if Simulation software has taught me anything, it's that overall rating is the least important factor in determining player ability. I'm going to assume that the formula used for OV in NHL13 places a high value on speed and agility.
Potential may play a factor in it as well and with Blum being in Milwaukee last season they still see him with more potential than guys who were in the NHL. They probably figure that guys in the NHL are at, or much closer to their career potential than a guy in the AHL.
Yeah...I know zero about video games, but Rinne and Weber, arguably top-3 at their respective positions, gets a 89 and 90. Weak (assuming this is based on 100?).

How would Klein score a 78 then?
Speed and agility are his strongest points. The boy can skate, he might make a bad read, force a bad play or turn the puck over but skating is not his problem. In fact, I'd say he's one of the top skaters on the team.

That's why i'm thinking potential plays a part in it, they probably think Klein has peaked while Blum has a lot of room to grow. Shame on them though if potential is a factor, it's important but should never be part of the OV formula.
WFOME ever has a good point though with the Vancouver angle.

ryan miller is a 92 .. carey price is a 90 .. vokoun 87 ..
Lol G Bourque is lower than Yip. NHL games are a joke anyways, as most sports games are. They are fun to play against your friends but they place such a higher value on teams from big markets and single players they neglect the reality of players potential and skills.
these are only the initial rankings, they change these muktiple times throughout the year. They suck now but will get better, they always do, if they show improvement, that is
Joke ratings just like always. Vancuver, Boston, Philly, and Detroit always the highest ranked no matter what. I get a big laugh everytime i see Philly's D rating of 100 on the current game.

I kept waiting for Josi's rating to go up last year. It never did.
Alright, I realize this is a stupid complaint for an unrealistic video game played with almost entirely 3 lines, but is Brian McGrattan not in the game or something?

He is on the AHL affilate for the ducks in HUT. I am not sure about play now or online vs.

but realize that weber is the 2nd highest rated defenseman in nhl 13 right? only chara is rated higher at 91

And no there is no weighted formula. This year they do the overall ratings different, they split up attributes into 5 catagories and average it out each catagory now i believe.
Kronwall, Hamhuis and Edler probably deserve those ratings though. The fact those goalies are ranked ahead of Rinne is ridiculous though.
and thats fine .. but weber is superior to letang, hamhuis, edler... and ratings should reflect that.. they dont. take away his slap shot ratings and he is probably an 85 lol
how is erat an 83 and yet booth from vancouver an 84 ? oh wait.. nevermind.
booth has seasons of 30 and 40 points season past 2 years... erat hits 50+ every year. he should be an 85+ at least.
I think Erat should be about an 84, but the problem isn't Erat's rating, it's booth's. Yeah, he'd be the best forward on our team....
While I disagree with a lot of the individual choices of ratings, I like that they are trying to differentiate more between the good and bad players. Step in the right direction.
I took a look at some other teams' roster...yikes. EA did a TERRIBLE job. Worse than usual.
ex. Anze Kopitar is an 86. Worse than Mike Richards, Rick Nash, Patrick Sharp, Patrick Marleau, Tomas Vokoun, Dion Phaneuf, Roberto Luongo, Markov, Hamhius, and more....

It could be worse. At least Josi and Blum are actually listed. For us, they completely omitted Atkinson from the rankings - and potentially from the game entirely.
(Also, they have Jared Boll as being a better overall player than Derek Dorsett, and Nikitin is the worst defenseman on the team. )
