Dustin Byfuglien

Dustin Bufuglien for a legitimate 2nd pairing defenseman preferably with size and grit + either a high end prospect or high draft pick in 2013.

There is an ongoing debate on the Jets board to the value of Buff but something like this seems to be somewhere near the breaking point.

Just curious where other fan bases would weigh in.

Ballard, Schroeder, 1st?

I think it should be a "value of" prefix, by the way.

Yeah... I wasn't quite sure of the prefix since it is a bit of a combination. Looking for what the value is but a proposal would need to include either a first (unlikely) or a 2nd pairing d-man + prospect/pick.

personally i like byfuglin quite a bit... if i knew the cap wasnt going to go down like crazy after the new cba was signed then id probably try to offer what you are asking for for him.

as a bruin fan... if i had the cap room... id give up boychuck who solves your size/grit issue, plus a first {which likely isnt a high end pick} and then to balance the deal out maybe flip a second first in an upcoming season for a second? or something like that?

its just really a question of what is going to happen to the cap that would make me hesitant trying to deal for byfuglin now if I was in charge of the B's.

No thank you. For many reasons but the main being a player like Big Buff does not fit the Bs defensive system... at all.

Maybe Ballard, Cannata, 1st if your looking for a goalie prospect instead of a centre. Now that I think about it we will probably need Schroeder to step in for Kesler for a bit.

Dude, just no. You won't even trade Jets your best goalie prospect? Like, for Byfuglien?! He has his inconsistencies but he still has room to improve and is already a top tier offensive guy the last two seasons. Cap dump, B- prospect and 24-30 pick is an absolutely insulting offer to the Jets.

they have bogosian and enstrom?

it's kind of pointless to keep three top-pairing offensive d-men when you have holes elsewhere. a good pick or good prospect could ultimately turn into the top line forward they are missing.

They should end this Buff as a d-man nonsense and put him on the wing.

This is along the lines I was thinking. Enstrom and Bogo can take care of our top pairing and provide plenty of offense. A large, grity defensively solid established player for the second pairing gives the Jets a more traditional and defensively sound backend. Getting a top prospect and or 1st rounder who potentially could develop into a top 6 forward. With a good young core of young players and an improving prospect pool I see these types of moves as a way for the Jets to build towards a contender.

By no means is trading Buff universally advocated on the Jets board. Personally I just can't see the Jets contending with a defensively sketchy rover as our top d-man. But his offensive talent truely is top end and he may be a good fit elsewhere.

Is Buff dead set against playing forward? I thought he could be pretty effective up front and would deepen your forward group. Not to mention add significant size.

If you want Eddie Lack, then change the 1st to a 2nd. Lack's one of the best goalie prospects in the league(after Markstrom and maybe Lehner, imo). Ballard is more of a reclamation project than cap dump, as he wasn't utilized properly and was coming of an injury. However, he was probably our best defensemen in the playoffs, and we do need to send some salary going the other way.

Sounds like a recipe for looking at a trade one sided. We already have our young tender to roll with in Pavelec I just found it particularly odd that for a player of Buff's calibre you offered a goalie that right now is 4th on the Canucks depth chart.

Not to mention we would probably be looking for a steady dman coming back for Buff and an upgrade somewhere else. Ballard has been just as inconsistent as Buff. I'm a Canucks fan after the Jets I know exactly what kind of deal you are offering lol

Buffy should not be playing D..BIG liability back there...He played his best when the Hawks won the Cup, and he played up front(after filling in on D til Campbell got back).

Well most canucks fans have penciled Lack in as our backup to whoever gets traded(some even hope we trade Schneider and let Lack repeat under Luongo). Cannata is a pretty good goalie prospect. I thought you were looking for a potential young backup, which is why I offered him, but what kind of prospects do you need? I could offer Connaughton, our best defensive prospect?
