Testing sticks

I always want to get away from sticking to the same line of sticks , but never build up the nerve to buy a completely new stick not knowing what it'll be like.

Does anyone know any way to test sticks before purchasing them? I know a couple stores have a shooting lane in the store, but often there not stocked with the newest sticks , or don't really mimic on-ice shooting.

Some manufacturers will go 'on tour' to promote their offerings. The Bauer Experience comes to mind. Other companies will go to tournaments and showcase there. If you do some research, you can find out exactly where.

try a base shooting clinic, they will try to sell you one of theirs but you can get a pretty good idea for what flex/curve/feel you like there.

Only caveat is the Base sticks I've used tend to be 10-15 flex whippier than listed.

When your team mates aren't looking, "borrow" one of theirs for a shift or two.
