Heard Paul Ranger and the Toronto Marlies have a one year deal in place, wont be announced til later this month. #supposedly

Just saw that on the main board. Ranger was supposed to be something...glad he's with the Marlies if this is true.

Good Marlie Signing if true. I remember when he first came into the league and was projected to be a quality D-man. Haven't heard anything about him in a long time.

He played for Tampa but left a year or two ago due to personal reasons. Hope he can get his hockey career back on track.

LOL. He was a defenceman with the Tampa Bay Lightning 2005-2009. He played a pretty good two-way style, took a leave of absence in 2009 and never returned. He was 25.

He was a very good defenseman for Tampa Bay, but he left the game for an unknown reason.

I think he's coaching a midget hockey team in the Toronto area.

Very interesting if true.

If there's a view to eventually sign him to a NHL contract if he gets back on track it could be a real nice reclamation project for us.

Yeah, he was a good player until he left hockey. Wonder what he'll be able to do after not playing for so long.

No idea what happened to this guy, but he was a very good and young top-4 (arguably top-pair) dman before he mysteriously left hockey. still only at age 27 he's got plenty of time to get back to that level.

He was a really good dman ... If he rebounds to the same form he was in 3ish years ago he could definitely play in our top 4.

He'd be the top guy on the Marlies I'd think

I hope he can return to the form he had in TB, he left for personal reasons evidently and maybe just needs to play closer to home, if so he is a pretty good D and at age 27 could help the Marlie D, or even as an emergency call up

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. Totally forgot about that guy. I remember he had a couple 25-30 point seasons for Tampa and then just dissapeared.

Anyways, good signing if true. Certainly can't hurt.

Didn't work out very well last time the Leafs had a player with a story like that.

I'm pretty sure he left to pursue a career in business, or something like that? Can't hurt to sign him, more depth for the Marlies.

I probably would of heard something if this was true so don't get your hopes up just yet. He left for personal reasons (aka girlfriend) he coaches the AAA Midget Whitby team with David branch. We have mutual friends

I like Ranger, would be nice to see him play professional hockey, even if it is at the AHL level.

Girlfriend? I thought it was rumored that Ranger needed to take time out from the game becuase of his drug problem.
