The last NHL lockout did not lead to major junior teams losing players to the American Hockey League. That doesn't mean the same circumstances will prevail in the strong likelihood the big league has another work stoppage but, excuse the fence-sitting, it doesn't mean it will.

It is true that nebulous NHL-CHL agreement which keeps a draft pick from major junior from playing minor pro expired with the last CBA. It's also true that a notably high number of first-round picks from June, 16 of 30, are already under contract, which is a hell of a coincidence. That doesn't necessarily mean that 19-year-old junior stars will be suiting up for the Charlotte Checkers instead of the Kitchener Rangers (to use Ryan Murphy's NHL and junior affiliations as a purely random example).

I meant Leaf property, not just big club.

Watched Ranger play with the Generals several times with team mates, Eager, Nolan and Horton. Good signing by Burke and co. if true.

Ahh - everyone forgot Yeo.

Love the Ranger acquisition if it's true. He's a guy who has the potential to be playing on the big club half way through the season, depending on how sharp he is and how well conditioned he is.

Was about to say everyone is forgetting Yeo because they waited till the zigo day to announce it iirc.

Not going to lie, between a couple of the more promising prospects on the Marlies finally being added, and some of the vets they have brought in, this looks like potentially the strongest group I've seen in a while. Says a lot seeing as last year they were fantastic.

I like that the Leafs/Marlies are going for the Calder. That's the right way to build your club in my opinion. Start a winning atmosphere in the AHL and move it up to the NHL.

Would it not show up under cap geek; Kotska and Aucoin are shown being signed, but not Yeo.

Not sure I dont use the website personally, but I know Aucion has a two way contract, not sure about Kostka but I believe the same.

Why dont you just google it? It was reported by a few Marlie's guys on twitter.

No it wouldn't show up under capgeek because they track NHL contracts only and how they effect a NHL team salary cap figure overall.

Players signed to AHL contracts are ineligible to be recalled by NHL teams as those contracts are not recognized by the NHL and those players not a part of the NHLPA players union.

Players that are signed to AHL contracts or ATO (Amateur tryout contracts) or PTO (Professional tryout contracts) which allows them to play in the AHL/ECHL, but the key factor in these contracts is that they do no appear among the maximum 50 allowable contracts any NHL team is permitted under the CBA rules to have at any time.

Capgeek only tracks the 50 NHL contracts on their site thus the omission of Dylan Yeo, similarly Leafs re-signed recently Mike Zigomanis to play for the Marlies but you will not find his contract on capgeek either for the same reasons as above.

Dylan Yeo confirmation

Quote:
Marlies Re-Sign Will Acton, Sign Mike Zigomanis and Dylan Yeo

A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced Monday that the team has re-signed forwards Mike Zigomanis and Will Acton, as well as signed free agent defenceman Dylan Yeo to one-year contracts, respectively.

Yeo, 26, skated in 48 AHL regular season games with the Oklahoma City Barons in 2011-12, posting 13 points (five goals, eight assists) and 37 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 210-pound Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native also played in 14 playoff games with Oklahoma City last season, registering eight points (one goal, seven assists). Yeo has appeared in 102 career AHL games and 174 ECHL games. In 2008-09, Yeo was named the ECHL's Defenceman of the Year while playing for the Victoria Salmon Kings.

Yeo sounds like Beauchemin almost lol. With his physical stature I mean.

Although when the marlies played the barons in the playoffs I recall him being a pretty decent puck possesor, but not doing much with it.

Hope Lashoff is added to that list.

Gysbers
Blacker
Yeo
Kostka
Fraser
(Ranger)
(Lashoff)

The following year 13/14 we'll have: Percy, possibly (Nilsson and Granberg). Blacker might crack the Leafs lineup. Add a few 1yr deals to the existing vets to fill out the rest with Rielly, Finn and Loov a few years away.

Marlies are set for a while on the backend and in goal.

Me thinks Nilsson is still 2 years away from marlies TBH. Played sel-2 and looked quite good, probably will make SWE-WJC this year, but let him get some top minutes before bringing him over as there is zero need.

Plus with the way he plays, and the amount he still needs to bulk up you might as well give him the time. Its what made Holzer successful.

Granberg though I would say based on the minutes he has platyed in SEL already and what he will get this year, should be ready without a doubt for next year.

On reilly, By few years I hope you mean 1 year
reilly will most likely play in junior this year and than make the leafs roster full time next year. You are acting like reilly was an off the board pick which he was not. Reilly is not a few years away. Finn probably 2 years away and loov is the only one I agree with you

Spoke to someone within the Marlies organization today and like a few others pointed out, nothing is official, or even heard of as of yet. At this point it's just a rumour.
