Something is fishy in Denmark. Why would he leave hockey?

I want to see why they signed him. He can`t play untill a move is made. Marlies rule is that 5 players, maximum, can have more pro(AHL,NHL) games played 260. Right now Marlies are at 5, with Ranger signing we go over the limit. Others-Zigo,Hamilton,Kostka,Aucion and Fraser. So unless maybe Fraser is playing as the 7th D on the Leafs Ranger can`t play with the Marlies

I dont have first hand knowledge, but it could be for the very same reason an ex Leaf left hockey not too long ago. Great signing nonetheless.

What are the chances within the next 1-3 years he's good enough to be back in the NHL? Basically will he make an impact with the big club anytime soon?

Then hopefully he gives the Leafs the first crack at signing him since he's playing for the Marlies.

That's not how it works. You can have as many vets signed as you'd like but only five can suit up in a single game. Veterans will shuffle in and out.

Chad Kilger? He got traded to the Panthers and pulled a Jimmy Hoffa.

He is still pretty young at 27. He'll be rusty for sure but after a few months of warming up you could definitely see him getting some call-ups. Wouldn't be crazy to see him crack the lineup of the leafs by the end of the year.

From what people say he sounds like a gunnarson type d-man, kind of a does a little bit of everything right but not too flashy type.

EDIT: Hopefully he can do some of this if he gets called up.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhAbhR8NeAk

OK, I found this funny. From zero to sixty in 2 1/2 hours in the late evening hours? Something doesn't add up.

I think these self-imposed rules are more a guideline than a hard-set restriction.

I really, really like this signing. Out of all the D on the Marlies I think this guy has the potential to see the most games.

So what's our blueline on-the-bubble count now?

Fraser
Ranger
Holzer
Franson
Reilly?
Blacker?

with locks of

Phaneuf
Gardiner
Gunnarson
Liles
Komi

It's not bad, but still lacks size in the top-4 IMO. Our blue line is best if Liles is the #5 with top-pairing PP time, and in that scenario that means Gunnar, Phaneuf, Gardiner and ________. With Liles at #5 and one of the bubble D at #6 developing, and Komi as the 7th.

Are people still making trade proposals? How about that Douglas Murray out of SJ for that #4 slot alongside Gardiner

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of it had to do with wanting to go to school. He immediately enrolled at Ottawa University and spent some time there (not sure if he got a degree or not).

Either way, he was in school during his hiatus.

No complaints here about that. Hopefully this return goes well for him and the Marlies.

At least he is smart and willing to sign an AHL deal knowing full well that he can't expect to get a NHL one after missing a couple of seasons.

If he can get anywhere near back to form, he's a perfect fit in our top-4 with Dion, Gunnar, and Gardiner. Even if he only gets halfway back to form, he'd still be a nice upgrade on Schenn.

Yeah. Ranger was a fantastic defenseman. I definitely thought he'd develop into a stud for the Lightning and he was very good before he left.

Now he can work his way up the ladder and we can get first crack at signing him to play in Toronto with the Leafs.
