From Selanne? That's a lot considering he only scored 26 last year in 82 games.

... Imagine if Selanne scored 37 to get to 700 and to win the Rocket Richard.... that would be EPIC.

Selanne's offensive production comes, pretty heavily, from the PP. Anaheim's poor PP was a big factor in Selanne's lower goals.

Anywhere from 30 to 52 points in a 48 game season.

He still only had 31 in an almost full season in 10-11. I'm not sure if he can get to 25 in 48, with a PP that might take a while to get figured out, and with likely a rookie center.

He scored at a .8ppg pace last year. If he scores say, 34 points, that is .7ppg.

edit: even if he's out a few games, I think it's realistic.

His second half of the year was a decline from his first half. At his age that's a huge red flag. I certainly hope he is productive, but I just wouldn't call it a safe bet.

I'm not putting too much stock into last year, honestly. The whole team sucked, including Getzlaf, Ryan, and to a lesser extent, Perry

I sure hope that doesn't happen. Anything less than 30 points would be a problem, considering we really only have 3 other top 6 F.

Okay you guys on this site have convinced me about Holland. I think they may do something like the did with Getz and Perry in their rookie year.

How about this.

Beleskey-Getz-Perry
Ryan-Bonino-Selanne
Winnick-Koivu-DSP
Cogs-Holland-Palmieri

Problem is with Staubitz. Do you keep DSP in the AHL and move Cogs to that line? Who knows but that might work.

That was my biggest problem with having DSP up last season - he could have spent the year 25 minutes a game playing in all situations and developing his offensive game but for some reason Murray insisted on keeping him up to give him 3rd - 4th line minutes with very little PP time.
Thinking some more, I'm going to predict that Rakell does win a spot. Like I said earlier, I think we are a little hard up for PKers. We're even more hard up for centers. I bet he gets a spot just like DSP last season, and we are going to have the exact same issues with it.

That was just my point in an earlier post. Even if we have no choice but to keep Gibson, I still think it's a bad idea. Unless "have no choice" means beating out Hiller too, Gibson as a #2 is a bad idea. He won't get enough playing time to develop as a #2.

Maroon Gets A Shot

I just wanted to ask everyone. How do you guys not think that Maroon gets a shot this year. I watch most of the AHL games and this guy dominates that league. I don't see how everyone is saying DSP should be on the team if he is that good he should be dominating the AHL which he isn't he only has 13 points and is a -13 which is terrible numbers. I think Maroon should def be on the opening night roster. I want to hear everyones thoughts on this. So please feel free to let me know

I'd almost rather have Maroon playing with Getzlaf and Perry than Palmieri

Thanks guys, ended up taking him really late, 140ish overall, it was either between him and Kunitz, but I went for Teemu

That would allow them to move Beleskey to third line with Koivu and Winnick.

Maroon-Getz-Perry
Ryan-Bonino-Selanne
Winnick-Koivu-Beleskey
Cogs-Holland-Palmieri

Interesting, I like the size of that line up. Still not sure what to do with Staubitz

Devo has played with Holland and Palmieri. I'd consider putting him there.

I see him having a similar path as O'Reilly. At first people are only going to think of him as a PKer, but over time the offensive game will come. I don't think he needs to be in the OHL for that to happen, so if his defensive game can translate now, I have no problem bringing him in.

It did. That's the only way that I'd keep him up. If he beats out the others, then tell him it's his job to lose next year and wish him luck in Kitchener.

That also coincides with Boudreau taking over, and a number of other offensive players declining in offensive production too. It seems more likely, to me, that Selanne was just a part of that, and it wasn't age suddenly catching up.

I'd rather have DSP on the 4th line than Cogliano. Honestly, Cogs just doesn't fit on this team that well.

There shouldn't be any problem getting rid of Cogs if that becomes necessary.

Agreed. The big guns were just bad last year...Selanne was the best one out of all of them, and that shouldn't be the case this year. I expect Getzlaf, Perry, and Ryan to all outproduce Teemu. That's not to say that Teemu won't be productive, but the other three are in the prime of their lives.

Well, as I said before, I hope you're right. But at Teemu's age I can't just put him in the same boat with everybody else. His last few years have been phenomenal. It can't last forever. Hopefully it will last at least 48 more games, but not forever.

With Rakell there, it'll be interesting to see how the forward group ends up. So anxious to see what our lineup looks like in Vancouver.

I really hope Rakell doesn't get put on the team. Maroon is better right now, and he needs to develop in the minors. I see no point in sticking him with the big club in a bottom 6 role.
