I'm sure Vinny would rather keep his family in Florida than move to some other location. It plays more of a factor than you'd think.

Jeez the negativity around here.....

Panthers Hockey.

I really hope I'm wrong. I really, really hope I'm wrong.
With Lecavalier, you're talking $4-5mil a year territory, basically what we are paying Flash, Jovo, Kuba and Versteeg. Remember, he's picking up a big chunk of cash in his buyout. Don't really think the money will be the determining factor in his decision.

It's not negativity. It's being realistic. We never sign the bigger named free agents. We finished last in the league so we're not going to be a contender. Our owners are cheap. A lot of teams will be interested.

But Vinny isn't going to be signed to some ridiculous contract that we can't afford. If we offer him around the same we pay Flash or tried to offer Garrison, he'd have to strongly consider us since it wouldn't be as drastic of a move for him and his family.

Those are two very different things IMO. To get something of value you're going to have to give something up that you may not really want to. Having a guy on the block means more that you're looking to move him. It's very possible there is no one on the block yet there are names he'd move in the right deal.

About Lecavalier situation. I read Tampa will be paying him 33M$ over 14 years. Then Santos goes to say "There are a lot of reasons for him wanting to stay in the state of Florida. Lets face it, there are lots of tax advantages in Florida and the money Tampa is buying himself out with is considerable.''

Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapa...#storylink=cpy

Does that mean he will have to pay taxes for the 33M$ based on where he lives/plays at the time? So to say he would get a lot more money just from Tampa by staying in Florida ?

Considering it's income, it can be taxed in other states if the state has an income tax, and FLA does not which is obviously a big incentive to anybody retiring (hence why this state is considered for older people). A lot of states in the US have an income tax. If he stayed in FLA he would certainly save more money than playing somewhere else that would end up taxing the buy-out turned income.

At least I think that's the case. Could be wrong.

Hold on to your butts, everyone.
One of the Boston radio guys tweeted this:

Me neither. Not a huge fan of him, but if he genuinely wants back, I wouldn't be opposed to it.

There is no way Horton comes back here. Terrible attitude, injure prone, lazy ass and requested to be traded. I'm sure Dale will laugh at his agent if he calls. While Horton would be great on a line with Hubs I think he just wants to get one last NHL contract before he's done with hockey.

Fleishmann-Lecavalier-Versteeg
Huberdeau-MacKinnon-Horton

Like that will ever happen here. But one can dream

I agree, tho I don't want him signing with a rival like Toronto/Tampa either. He's still an effective top line player and if all it takes is a contract to get him, we can send someone else off to upgrade another weakness.

Huberdeau - Lecavalier - Horton
Fleischmann - Matthias - Versteeg
Bergenheim - Goc - Kopecky
Upshall - Shore/Bjugstad - Mueller

Campbell - Gudbranson
Petrovic - Weaver
Kuba - Jones

Luongo

Markstrom

Horton isn't a guy who can create much on his own, but like his mentor Olli Jokinen (that one's for you zero ) he has a deadly shot if you give him time and space - both of which Huberdeau can give him.

This lineup is a bit weak up the middle still, but IMO would make some serious noise.

Bjugstad, Shore & Trochek can work their way up the center of that depth chart.

I hope Tallon hangs up the phone if Horton starts looking.

He's not a star, but he can produce like one if you put him in the right situation.

If he's looking for the rumored $6M per, then yes you hang up.

Fair enough.

I haven't heard a lot of positive feedback from people who have made casual contact with him.

I absolutely do not want Horton back. As far as I'm concerned, he stopped his Panthers career after leaving the team last time. He's not exactly cancer to the locker room like Bouwmeester was, but not a guy I'd want back with the culture that Tallon is trying to build here. Hockey isn't the top thing on his mind and If I remember him saying when he left here that may not want to play for many more years. He still is a force that can rack up points for five games but disappear for the next ten. It's not worth acquiring that in my opinion.

Dr B has a legit reason, and it's a big reason I don't like him. Not sure why he'd want to come back after leaving and being in the Cup Finals twice in 3 years.

For the same reason all the 'veteran' hockey players come here: to retire.

I think Horton is lazy, unmotivated, and immature. Pretty much anyone could score with enough time and space. Horton plays when he wants to. The rest of the time he floats. I would rather have Gregory Campbell back (since we're all dreaming here).
