I don't think this is a rumor.

It's a Coyotes blog suggesting the team should do it.

My friends girlfriend is actually Jonathan Cheechoo's cousin. I can confirm this rumour

It's the closest I get to knowing a Rocket Richard Trophy winner personally.

Yeah, there's no mention of a PTO anywhere. It seems like speculation if anything. There's no rumor to it.

Well...they do have to make up almost 30 million in cap space, fairly soon. 12 million if they were to sign all their current UFA's. There are going to be a couple players who are going to make a killing, thus creating a massive problem for the owners...yet again...because someone is going to have be overpaid for their value for Phoenix just to field a team, unless they promote from their AHL club and sign some scrub minor league players.

I feel like if there was anything left, he would have appeared in the Blue Note at some point last season.

He works out at my gym here in San Jose. He seems to be focusing a lot on his legs, which doesn't surprise me considering speed is one of his weaknesses.

I thought his knee(s) was bad.

Yeah? Well, my father's doctor's son's friend's dog's veterinarian's cousin's mother's nephew's classmate's stepdad's brother-in-law's aunt is Gretzky's imaginary friend.

Ditto. I don't think that there is anyone that doesn't like him. He didn't play well for my Sens, mostly because he has zero speed anymore, but he still has hands, and is a genuine, nice guy. I hope he is able to catch on somewhere. Wish it had worked out in Ottawa. Best of luck to Cheech.

Why did his scoring drop off so much?

Stars gave him a tryout last summer (could have been prior summer). He obviously didn't make it.

His knees are done.

I don't say this often because I like comebacks, but this guy is done IMO. He can keep up in a level below - like the AHL, but put him intm the mix with fluid skating, mobile NHLers and all you have is a grinder who can't skate very well. A toxic mix.

Cheech never had great skating ability but once he had double sports-hernia surgery he just wasn't able to get in position for that deadly shot of his.

One of the nicest players I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I wish him luck!

Perhaps some horrible team could use a third line winger...

We could use a third line winger... lol, but no, he's too slow sadly.

Unless something has changed, it's not his knee's, its a natural lack of skating ability coupled with a double sports hernia he never recovered from.

I guarantee you if he could all of the sudden skate again the Sharks would welcome him back with open arms.

Appears to be just a rumour at this point but if true Cheechoo could be a decent add for Phoenix if he's healthy.

Like others said, injuries killed him. He was never a great skater, and those injuries just made his stride even worse.
In my mind, a healthy Cheechoo is still a 30+ goal scorer without a doubt. I was watching old reruns of the pre-lockout Sharks a few days ago, and while his top speed was poor, he was very crafty and agile. Not to mention his balance and puck control was exceptional, it was really hard to knock him down.

I'm sure the Sens would too. He has no speed anymore (not that he was ever blazingly fast as has been mentioned), but dude's got hands.
