Went with Andersson. Think we should add Max Nicastro this round.
I really like Marchenko but a couple of things. I want to see him actually be healthy. He has more potential than a lot of the prospects now ranked ahead of him and I agree with those saying he might actually be the second best D-man. Have a lot of trouble ordering Ouellet, Sproul, Jensen, Marchenko and Sproul.
The other thing on Marchenko is right now he wants to come to North America and I truly believe that. However, what does the new CBA do to that opinion that remains really murky right now. If they make ELC's super long he might never show up. Emelin waited to be older could see Marchenko doing the same thing and making cash instead of a stupid ELC that limits him for potentially five years.
Andersson went down this list on potential. But one thing about Andersson is I really like his drive. He improves at almost everything each year. That is a good sign and his coaches really like him. Both of those point to him being a good bottom six player. Would really like to see him used on the PK this time if he is called up, I think he can help that unit and he is very good at the AHL level. Really liked how he picked up his offense, his skating has improved a lot although it will never be great. Just think he puts in a lot of effort and is probably a little better than how a lot of us regard him.
I want to pick Andersson, I'm just too much of a fan of Mattias Backman at this point. The guy is Sproul-like but in Europe. His arrows are pointing sky high since being drafted. Add l'il Ben Marshall, he's got the:
* I promise this is the last time I make this joke.
Marchenko is probably next for me, though Backman is a possibility. Something I find impressive at this point is if we take the top two guys off the list, assuming they graduate, a top3 of Jarnkrok, Tatar, and Jurco still looks pretty good.
Went with Backman, although I think LMA is most likely to be a regular NHLer of the remaining bunch. I like the depth of our system. I am not really ready to write too many of our prospects off at this point.
People have said Almqvist has top 4 potential, yet he hasn't received a single vote in round 14? I have no faith in him and the sooner he's out of the system, the better for Detroit. He could be a number 7 on depth charts, but he has no defensive game which is what I'd want out of a number 7 guy, not offense.
The poll is set to close at 7:23 tonight. You'd rather tack another 24 hours on than just wait out the next six?
I could make it your call. We did advance somebody not to long ago, I want to say Frk with one vote after the 48 hour voting period. I have called them early sometimes, but I can honestly say this is the one big flaw and struggle I am having running this, is what to do with the really tight races? I have thought the whole point of the vote is just a big sample, you vote for one of ten and if somebody wins by a vote great.
But I think somebody else threw it out there that maybe we shoud have a 5% rule or the runoff triggers. In a runoff of course that would not matter. But since I didn't do it for the first 14 rounds I think it is a little late now. I know I talked about doing this maybe mid-season when hopefully a couple have graduated and there is some movement with how we feel about the prospects. Guess I would consider doing it then but as of right now my opinion is Marchenko advances if the votes hold up. But if you would like to do it another way as a mod, that is your right, kind of why I sent messages to the mods to run it to begin with because I was worried me making choices like this might rub people the wrong way.
Going to wait for Winger98 to decide if he wants to do a runoff. I know I upset some people by moving on from the Ouellet and Pulkkinen round so I will allow a mod to make that decision this time around.
If I don't see anything by tomorrow afternoon I will just call it for Marchenko and move on to Prospect 15. Guessing that will be quick for Andersson anyway.
