[Lemieux] vs. [Crosby + Malkin fusion]

This is what you think it is. Who would be a better player, Mario Lemieux, or a 'fusion' version of Crosby and Malkin?

For posters who were robbed of a proper childhood, this is the fusion reference:

edit: typo in title, fusion.

Uh they would never score because they would go "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHH" for 12 minutes before shooting the puck.

Croskin would have a good shot at matching up with Lemieux, but i think in the end Lemieux would win.

It's pretty telling that this is even a debate...

I mean, the 2 best offensive players in the game today should be better than pretty much anyone from the past. The fact that this isn't a slam dunk really is a testament to Lemieux, Gretzky, Howe, and Orr.

Sid's concussions & Geno's knees vs. Mario's back and cancer.

This is a battle for the ages.

I'm the biggest Lemieux fan as they come....however....

If you take Evgeni "hint of Mario" Malkin, and add in....
Crosby's backhand
Crosby's speed
Crosby's vision
Crosby's close-in shot
Crosby's tenacity

So this gets added to...
Malkin's big shot
Malkin's hands with the puck
Malkin's skating ability/maneuverability
Malkin's takeaway ability

Ya know...I was about to say it would be an easy one for Croskin, but now looking at all the variables, it's not that clear cut anymore.

I still gotta got with Lemieux. Mario has finesse that could not be measured in the world we inhibit. His ability to see and read a play were light years ahead of Crosby...sadly. then his hands and accuracy to be able to put the puck exactly where he wanted it was intrinsic.

Mario baby...its all Mario.

I have to agree...Crosby is outstanding and does some AWESOME things; Malkin is also outstanding, and there are flashes at times where he does remind me of Mario.

HOWEVER...while these two are exceptional talents that I love to watch...Mario was simply otherworldy.

After watching so much of Malkin and Crosby, there are times when I think gee...how MUCH better was Lemieux than these guys...then, not long ago, I popped in an old recording of Lemieux...it took all of 5 seconds to be reminded that he is PEERLESS.

Put Sid in Geno's frame and I'd say it's a lot closer than most would admit. Sid's work ethic trumps Mario's by a mile.

Can't argue with that... Still, even Sid in a Malkin body -- no, IMO. I watched Lemiuex play for basically his entire career. While his work ethic was NOT like Crosby's most times, especially off-season, when Mario decided it was time to turn it on, he climbed into a phone booth and emerged with an "S" on his chest -- and had a penchant for doing so in the biggest games/on the biggest stages...

When he turned it on...simply scary. He was, in my mind, some blend of a ballerina and a magician. So fluid and smooth, and all you could do is shake your head and say "how did he just do that?"
