2012 Minnesota #16 Prospect

Once, twice, three times a goalie...

The last of the goalie triumvirate sees himself off the board as Darcy Kuemper becomes the fifteenth-best Wild prospect with 44.78% of the vote.

2012 HF Wild Prospect Rankings
1. Mikael Granlund
2. Jonas Brodin
3. Charlie Coyle
4. Mathew Dumba
5. Johan Larsson
6. Jason Zucker
7. Matt Hackett
8. Brett Bulmer
9. Zack Phillips
10. Mario Lucia
11. Johan Gustafsson
12. Raphael Bussieres
13. Erik Haula
14. Steven Kampfer
15. Darcy Kuemper

Seems fitting that the third goalie gets replaced by the fourth so Stephen Michalek enters the fray for this poll. As always, polls are open for two days.

Went with Cuma, Seeler's just too far away at this point.

So why is Seeler getting this one over Draeger or Cuma?

Just asking if you have some info on him.

Because Seeler is a year further in development (versus a third round pick who hasn't had any opportunity to prove himself to be better than his draft position) at a position of need who hasn't done anything to make us think less of him. Also, according to comments out of the front office last year, they wanted Seeler in the third round, but they had traded that pick to draft Lucia.

As for Cuma, many people here outright won't vote for him at all, ever. I have him as the best remaining, but can't blame others for their hesitation.

Is this an opinion based on watching him play or based on stats?

Cuma, at this point, looks to top out as a #4 defensive style defenseman. More likely, he'll be a bottom pairing guy or depth defenseman. There's still some very small chance he reclaims some of that upside he was drafted for, but it's best to think of him as a 4-6 type guy. He is only 22 years old, and seems to have recovered well from both knee surgeries though.

Busted. Just stirring the pot there a little. Only seen him play live three times. Looked like a decent big defensive defenseman but nothing special. Also basing my opinion on other people I've talked to who watched him play in the USHL. Pretty much a universal "he's OK..." We all should get a much better read when he starts playing for Blais at the next level.

Any way to follow college hockey games online?

So Draeger is going to Michigan State and coached by Anastos, Seeler to Nebraska-Omaha coached by Blais. Both coaches seem to have the credentials for developing prospects.

Who do you think has the better program and coach for development?

Seeler due to TP's lobbying.

But at this point I know nothing about our 2012 draft picks outside Dumba and Bussieres, so I don't feel like I know their upside vs the meh prospects who are left.
