Kyle Okposo

He's been with the team seemingly forever, got a cool last name, but after the couple past games I'm starting to think Okposo might be traded. He can't seem to find chemistry with any other Islanders, and I think a change of scenery might benefit him and allow him to capitalize on his potential.

This isn't a firm "I want this guy off my team immediately", but I'd like to gauge what value the rest of the league places on him. He's absolutely arrived, at the very least, at a "listening to offers" stage.

I would really like him on the Shark
I think the Sharks could offer a good package
Clowe, Braun, Petrecki

Could use him on the Sharks. Lord Stanley knows we could use some finishers on our third line.

Not sure what we could give up though. We're deep at D, so maybe some combination of Murray, a D prospect, one of our bottom-6ers (Wingels or Burish), and a pick? Still seems like underpayment to me because of Okposo's excellent contract, but I don't see what else we could reasonably offer.

Clowe could work I guess, though picks might need to be added to even it out.

Wang would never approve Okposo getting traded.

Well he is making more than his average salary hit next year (3 mil on a 2.8 cap hit next year, and then 3.5 to 4.5). I could see why Wang would want to trade him before he has to pay him more than he's capped for.

Okposo's one of the few players the Sharks would realistically trade one of Demers or Braun for. Makes sense too. Demers and Braun are Okposo's age. Demers is an RFA after this year due a small raise, Braun is locked up on a nice 3 year contract. Both guys are top-4 talents. I think we'd add something, but dunno what.

I don't watch a ton of Sharks hockey but Demers or Braun both seem like nice targets that would help both teams.

No he is not physical, but he can be very strong on the puck, and can be a bull in the corners. Although he has not displayed those traits thus far this season.

If Okie is traded I'd prefer to pair him with a pick for a first line winger, Ullstrom is ready to take his spot if traded. Although something around Demers for Okposo would work for me.

The guy who scored 24 goals last season playing mostly with Bailey/Grabner/Nielsen can't find chemistry with any Islanders?

That's a head scratcher because all of his linemates this season, were his linemates last season.

I can honestly say, I don't want 1 piece being offered.

MacDonald plays quality, 1st pairing mins, making $500,000.
Nino remains the isles top prospect.

The inconsistent KO is core youngster, who's team friendly contract is needed by the cash strapped team

If Okposo were dealt, I'd expect it to be in the summer, when the isles look to address their blueline (Streit is a ufa).

Mark Fayne. Straight up.

Big, mobile, all-situations, two-way workhorse who plays a lot of difficult minutes and puts up respectable points for a defensive defenseman.

Forget what armchair gms think/want.

Do you really think Snow is trading a 24 yr old core player, for a pick/prospect who is likely several yrs away from contributing, at the NHL level?

The isles players, coaches, gm and owner are talking playoff run this season. Not how they can push back their rebuild a few more yrs.

Funny, I think it's getting less likely for him to be moved. I know he struggled within the last year or two, can't remember which. There were rumors (probably unsubstantiated... or maybe just made up on this website) that the Islanders might move him.

But like it was posted above, the guy had 24 goals last year. He's only 24 years old so he's a part of the NYI building process. I'd be surprised if they move him.

This is probably a fair, lateral deal to make. Might not even have to add Kassian. Okposo has a higher ceiling but Setoguchi has shown consistency as a 20 goal scorer. Only problem is that they are both right handed wingers so it'd really have to be Snow thinking he'll find better chemistry in Setoguchi.

This is coming around because Okposo is miscast as a 1st-line winger playing with JT. He had a hot-streak with JT last year, so some fans believed it would work this year. It did not.

Okposo is a 2nd-line winger who would excel playing in a trap system. He's very good at starting a rush, and from playing behind the play. He struggles finishing. His athleticism is massively overrated, but he is very good at getting his stick into passing lanes. Honestly, sometimes I wonder whether he wouldn't have been a better defenseman. He's back playing with Nielsen and Grabner, where he belongs.

Okposo is not the problem on this team, much like Sean Bates wasn't the problem 10 years ago (although Okie is better than Bates). The problem is that we don't have a 1st line winger. I don't see the point in opening a 2nd-line winger hole if we're not solving the 1st-line winger problem. And nobody is going to trade a 1st-line winger for a 2nd line winger (+ futures), so this is kind of pointless.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Would love him in Toronto, Leafs still need more size.

JvR, Kulie, KO, Frattin and Komarov in the top 9 would accomplish that.
