Campbell: Players Want To Distribute List of Divers (mod warning post 245)

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...t-league-wide/

Quote:
Following the commencement of the NHL’s Rule Enforcement Meetings, Senior Executive Vice President Colin Campbell highlighted one of the key developments from the two-day affair:

Players want to eliminate diving. Big time.

Here’s the skinny from Dan Rosen of NHL.com:

The players in the session, including Ottawa center Jason Spezza, Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa and Toronto defenseman John-Michael Liles, led an impassioned discussion on enforcing the diving/embellishment rule (Rule 64.1), Campbell told NHL.com. He said the players want to distribute a list of divers around the League so it can be posted in all 30 dressing rooms and be delivered to the on-ice officials.

“They want to get [the list] out there,” Campbell said. “They want the player to be caught, whether it’s on the ice by the referee or by us on video. They are all tired of diving. The object is to make them stop eventually and, by doing that, they can get it out there around the League, embarrass them. The referees will know it, too, so the divers don’t get the benefit of the doubt.”
I wonder whether Bieksa thinks several of his teammates should be on the list.

I want to take it a step further. Repeat offenders get a scarlett letter. A big "D" in cursive like Laverne's "L" to be word on the opposite side of the jersey from where the "C" or "A" would go.

Don't think the list is really necessary - everyone in the league knows who would belong on it - but I definitely want to see more enforcement.

The league should utilize supplementary discipline to deal with it. Diving gets caught on camera pretty blatantly. Even if it's fairly rarely implemented, when there's suddenly punishment (and severe punishment at that) for their actions, they will clean up their act pretty quickly.

Distributing a list is just possibly the worst solution I've ever heard to any problem in the history of ever.

This is probably the best news I've heard from the NHL in a long time.

In any event...who do you think should make the list.

Marchand and Kesler should be at the top of it.
Marchand dove like three times in one game which was disgusting... but to say he is one of the biggest divers still seems pretty silly to me. If he keeps up that trend, then sure.

And yes get that diving out of here.

Not the way I would go about it but what do I know: I don't work in an NHL environment everyday.
Kesler is doomed. I love it.

Funny that people are getting so uppity about a bunch of guys flopping around but don't make an issue with the hacking, slashing, cross-checking, elbowing, head-hunting.

It's like when "concerned parents" come around to condemn kids smoking weed but are conspicuously absent when they get involved with gang wars.

I agree with this but I don't think it should be up for the fans to discuss because as mentioned. No one will mention their team's players and everyone will mention their rival team's players.

But I'm all for embarrassing divers. Have a dive of the week on NHL.com for all I care.

If this is true, and they actually abolish diving through this, it would be the 2nd best news I could get this offseason. 1st obviously being a new CBA before season start.

This already happens so I rather it being overseen with due process.

At one point a ref argued that Karlsson was on this "list" when he really doesn't belong on there. Chris Neil can get theatrical though.

On the topic of diving, does anyone know if anybody dives on the Oilers? I can pretty confidently say nobody does from what ive seen, but I may be looking through Homer glasses unknowingly and unwantedly.

Every team in the league has at least one guy that dives/embellishes, so such a list would have players from every team on it, and pretty quickly.. So really, if no team can mock the other for having divers because they have one or two themselves, what's the point..

I still think 2 minute minors for unsportsmanlike WITHOUT the matching minor for the "infraction" is the right way to go. Lesson will be learned for the embellisher that the refs don't like to be ridiculed or lured into making a call, even if it's there without the embellishment.

Don't care about a list, just want to have it called.

Just call the penalty, no not the hooking and diving offsetting minor penalties. Just call the diving. Oh yeah a second offense is a 1 game suspension, third offense is a 5 game suspension and 4th offense is a 20 game suspension. Without pay ofcourse, with no cap relief for the teams. Force the teams to also police the divers on their own squad.

But really nothing will change because this is nothing but lip service this is par for the course for the NHL.

Maybe I read your post wrong but the point of the list isn't to allow one fanbase/team to mock another. It is to villify diving and divers and to hope that this discourages others from diving in the future.

1rst time - name on list
2nd time - name on jersey in pink
3rd time - name and number in pink
4th or more - pink uniform

3 or more players on team in pink uniforms must change name of team for season to include diving
