Buffalo - Dallas

To Buffalo:

LW Brenden Morrow
C Vernon Fiddler

To Dallas:

D Jordan Leopold
LW Nathan Gerbe
2013 2nd

If the Sabres lose out on the Doan sweepstakes, which is expected, Morrow could be the next best target; however, this proposal is assuming he'd waive his NTC. We're also looking for that bottom-six center for our third or fourth line. I feel Fiddler is ideal for that role and is signed for two more years; I also feel he is expendable to the Stars, for they have guys like Eakin, Wandell, etc. for that role. The Stars could use another top-four, puck-moving defenseman. Leopold would give the Stars options on the PP with Goligoski, Daley, and Larsen. Gerbe is an ideal bottom-six winger with scoring touch; although small, is feisty and speedy. I had to include the 2nd to balance it out more.

The value is fair but I don't see Dallas doing this, they have very little grit.

Buffalo has to add a prospect or change that second to a first cuz Morrow is worth abit more IMO Atleast...

Like the other guy said, that takes away almost all of our grit.

I like the premise of this trade

How about
Leopold
Tropp
Pysyk

I was going to include Tropp instead of Gerbe at first. We could do either or.

No thanks. Doesn't really address any of our needs, value is there though.

That, and playing the Sabres would just feel so wrong.

No thank you. Pysyk needs to stop being thrown in proposals like this. He's arguably our best D prospect. I'd be ok with switching Gerbe to Tropp in the original proposal if that made it any more appealing to Stars fans, but I'd rather keep Pysyk.

Pysyk doesn't really do much for us either, to be honest. He's a great young player, we've just got too many defensive defensemen prospects lined up already.

If we can't have Morrow, what would it take to get Fiddler alone?

Why not just sign Dom Moore?

He'll either stay with the Sharks or take a year off, from what I heard.

How much for Fiddler alone?

With Roy being out for a while that complicates any trade that subtracts a center. If Fiddler were to be moved we'd be looking at Benn-Wandell-Eakin-Sceviour down the middle which is extremely young and untested. That might be worth the risk if there was something more appealing coming back, but as it is... Leopold is very similar to what's already here on defense. I'd rather give those PP minutes to Larsen than bring in someone from the outside. If Robidas had been moved then maybe there'd be room for Leopold.

Shouldn't Faksa get at least the nine games? Maybe replace Roy until he's ready, then send him back to junior.

I personally don't think Faksa is going to play any NHL games this season unless he has just a ridiculously good camp. The Stars are very conservative when it comes to bringing prospects along and are typically careful not to overexpose them for short-term purposes. And then of course if there's a lockout he'll just go straight back to juniors.

If you want Morrow by himself the deal would probably be something like a mid-tier prospect + 2nd rounder. Like say Catenacci + 2nd. Don't know if the Sabres would be willing to move him or not after adding Grigorenko and Girgensons. The Stars would probably be able to get back above the floor once Benn is signed.

I'd do that. I'm probably not as high on Cat as some Sabres fans, though.

Done deal, and take Doan's offer off the table

I'd do that too for Morrow. Although I'd still love Fiddler. Or even Wandell.

Why the desire for a 4th line center?
