A-Rod to miss the first half of 2013?

http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...-season-source

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Alex Rodriguez is expected to miss most of the first half of the 2013 season because of a second hip surgery, sources have confirmed to ESPN.

The surgery will be on Rodriguez's left hip. After pre-rehabilitation, he will have the surgery in January and then it will take four to six months for the New York Yankees' third baseman to recover. In 2009, Rodriguez, who will be 38 during next season, had his right hip repaired.

And the Yankees might have to start the season with a left side of the infield consisting of Nunez & Nix instead of Jeter and A-Rod.

#Yankees announcement on A-Rod cites two doctors who say “very strong possibility” that hip condition hurt performance late in season/p-s.

Of course they add that...heh.

Interesting comments by Curt Schilling on A-Rod's injury. Right off the bat, mentioned that the PEDs are the reason why A-Rod's body is breaking down. He also says that the Yanks shpuld void the contract. 5 years left...good luck with that.

Do they have any grounds to void the contract if they even wanted to?

114 million. That's what Alex is still guaranteed.

He's doing what a guy does who has played every day for the past 20 years, that is breaking down.

Not sure why people are under the impression that A-Rod sucks. He's still a pretty good player. This is a big loss.

He's been injured or ineffective the last few years. He's not "pretty good" anymore. He's declining.

You can still be pretty good and declining at the same time. People are used to elite A-Rod so they think the A-Rod they see now is awful, which he isn't. He's useful. All this injury does is create another problem for the Yankees. It's bad news for them.

Will turn out to be the worst contract ever written in baseball.

Here are some other memorable contracts.

Carl Crawford, $142,000,000 (2011-17) (jury still out)
Alfonso Soriano, $136,000,000 (2007-14)
Vernon Wells, $126,000,000 (2008-14)
Barry Zito, $126,000,000 (2007-13)
Mike Hampton, $121,000,000 (2001-08)

Yankees should start looking at 3rd basemen

Unsure if Arod will even play more than half the games this season

Just too old and feeble and can't handle the rigors of everyday baseball anymore.

Yes, that's it. 37 year old man worse at things than he used to be, the only possible explanation is the steroids he used to be on.

Cashman himself said these aren't typical injuries. Didn't come out and say it was because of PED use but if you read between the lines it's what he said without saying it.

And Schilling is an idiot. It's not like he took PED's after signing the contract. The Yankees knew they were going to get a guy that was awful and injured at the end of that contract.

Was damn good player before this hip business.

Hasn't been the same since the hip started in.

At this point you hope the surgery buys him another good year.

I agree that he's more useful than people think. He's still very good defensively and a smart baserunner. That usually goes far on here
