I can't see NYI being interested. That is WAY too much money for Wang to spend. However, maybe if Ballard is included we could get some real value from Long Island.
What are you talking about? Wang started those ridiculous contracts with the Yashin deal. Then DePietro. Wang isn't begging for change anytime soon and has always been willing to shell out money on long contracts if he thinks the player is worth it. The NYI have the cap space and pieces to be a good trade partner for Van.
"With the 1st overall pick in the 2013 NHL entry draft, the Vancouver Canucks are very proud to select [over-ager who could be available to draft several rounds later]!"
Patrick white! Wait, we already drafted him?
I can't wait until all of this Luongo trade stuff is over. I think it will get done sooner rather than later. It will be a massive distraction for everyone if he stays for long. Also, I don't want to hear any nonsense excuses from the Canucks that their new players didn't have enough time to get used to playing with each other by trading lu halfway through the season. Trade him soon and let's end the nightmare.
Can you imagine if Luongo vastly outplays Schneider for a considerable stretch this season while still being part of the Canucks? I don't want another goalie debate. I guess his value would go up though.
Keeping Luongo is a better option than trading him. We won't get any assets that will make our team better in the future or in the present, unless Gillis manages to make a steal. Right now, fair value for a goaltender of his calibre is a dream, and only getting slightly shafted seems to be a steal. The Canucks are looking at a 3rd line center, a middling prospect, and a 2nd round pick if they deal Luongo for his current market value. None of those will help the Canucks as much as having a great goaltender play every single night, without fear of fatigue for the playoffs.
How condensed will the schedule be? How much rest will Schneider need? He hasn't adjusted to a full schedule yet, so making him play a condensed schedule all alone is a recipe for disaster. Keep Luongo and the team will be better off for the move.
