Drop-in Ball Hockey in Victoria?

Anyone know if there are any drop in floor or ball hockey games in Victoria?

I've been looking for one for a while now and havent been successful.

I'd be interested in knowing this as well. There is a league out of Eagle Ridge in Langford but is super expensive.

Yeah I live in Oak Bay so that would be a pain for me to make it out there

I had a friend give me some locations for drop-in floor hockey one time, but I have, of course, lost the piece of paper with the information on it. (And I never made it out to any games myself, for various reasons.)

I'll see if I can dig it up. The info might be outdated, though.

The Eagle Ridge league that plays in winter is good quality ball hockey for the most part. Not cheap compared to small gym floor hockey, but it's a significant step up. I've been involved in the leagues for 3+ years now and really enjoy it.

If people with experience are interested in playing in an organized league, send me a PM.

In terms of small gym hockey, one option for you would be the YMCA downtown (Quadra and Broughton). They play on Friday's at 6:30.

I don't know if they are still playing, but the Fernwood Community Centre on Gladstone used to run ball hockey twice a week from 7-9:30 so that would be an option. It was cheap, something like $4-5 a night. But I haven't played there in a year so you'd have to give them a call.

I'm in a non-drop in drop-in ball hockey league - we pay like $125 and throw our sticks in the middle of the floor and go from there

So it's not drop it but it's not some crazy formatted serious league.

The play is usually 3 on 3 but if there's a lot of guys, which there hasn't been since Oct, it's 4 on 4

It's based on a few of the guys work so Im not sure if I can invite people but if anyone is intereted, send me a note and I'll ask

We play until March or so and I'm sure they'd give a discount in lieu of late registration

I *think* that the YMCA on Quadra used to have drop-in floor hockey. Give them a call.

I was on the YMCA site and looks like they have drop in ball hockey on Fridays, included in $37/mo membership...

I'd be interested in that as well, I live only a few blocks away.

Found my list. Again, some of this info might be outdated, as it's from 8 or so months ago.

Tuesday - 7:00 - Fernwood Community Centre - $4
Thursday - 8:00 - Church at Pat Bay/Mckenzie - $10
Friday - YMCA Downtown - $4
Monday - Pentecostal Church on Island Highway - $5

And now I want to play too. Hmm.

Fernwood used to play both Tues and Thurs but I don't know if that's still going.

The quality at the Y is better than at Fernwood. I haven't played at the other locations. I have heard that the drop in at Pearkes is decent (the facility at Tillicum Mall).

That Y is awesome. It's one of the things I miss most about Victoria.

Wednesdays at Quadra School (the 8pm one) needs more players.. Its certainly not the best competition but floor hockey is floor hockey.
I believe the drop in fee is something like $5?

Fridays at the Y is the best drop in I've found. Awesome group of guys and the talent levels can get up around VBHL.

Me and my Step Dad play at Belmont High on Tuesday Nights @ 8. we play 4 v 4 with 2 subs aside usually but if you're looking for skill its not really the right group for you. Im 16, so guys I'm play against are at least double my age. Yes they have good shots but for the most part none of them are very fast or have very good hands. Im the other way around which makes me rack points. Either way it's moreso a private thing but if you live out near Langford and you're really interested PM me.

I'm gonna give Fernwood a call since it is the closest from where I live.

I think I've seen people play at Lansdowne Middle School? Anyone have information on that because I live literally 1 minute from it.

Thanks a lot guys.

I can attest that the YMCA on quadra has some great pick up games every friday night. Lots of the guys from the eagle ridge/panorama/tillicum VBHL league go there to practice/warm up/have some fun.

Played there for a couple years but sadly had to move for work. Miss it. If you wanna go just call after 11:00 am friday morning to get a spot - call soon. this time of year it usually tops up at the 20 man limit fairly early.

The leagues fun, give it a shot if you got the equipment. You can go on the vbhl website and throw yourself on as a spare list. Good way to get a few cheap chances to play instead of paying up front for a season.

Theres some other groups around too, talk to people at the Y on friday night and you can usually find some more groups. I've heard fernwood is good.

The ball hockey at Quadra on Wednesdays is private. I went there pumped to play and was told I couldn't because it was a work based event. Thanks a lot for embarrassing me.
