"Denis had been retired for 5 seasons” when Rangers made the offer: “They offered him a $5 mil bonus for a Cup win; and $2 mil for the rest of that season and $5 mil for the following season.”

Wow. I'm so glad Potvin never wore the Rag$ jersey.

I remember Potvin posing for cameras that season while holding up a Rag jersey in front of his body and shaking his head no. That was of course after news broke out over the offer, but I don't think anyone realized how serious it was. He could have made $7 mil that season. A lot for anyone, especially a guy who came from an era where stars like him were seriously underpaid. So kudos to him for not taking it. I know it's too sickening a thought for either Isles or Rags fans to contemplate, but what if he did help lead the Rags to the Cup that season? Would that infamous chant be transferred to the Coliseum faithful? Glad we'll never have to know.

7 million dollars to play hockey would be losing his mind? I don't think so.
he is old school so his integrity would been more important to him than the money. so yeah he would have had to of lost his mind to play for the Rangers.
but again i think it was keenan just trying to get his players going, Denis Potvin was the last person the rangers would have wanted associated with a cup winning team
If he signed with NYR, maybe he would've collided with Messier during practice and broken Messier's ankle, and we'd still be chanting "1940" and they'd still be chanting "Potvin Sucks", but even louder.
