Agreed, as a dane, im very exited about this one!
Have been raving about him for some time now.
Wish we could know more about him.
He is a bit of an unknown player in Denmark, unlike his father.
Yeah it's a bit frustrating that Nikolaj Ehlers, who might be the greatest danish prospects ever (?!), is playing in Switzerland. We all feel starved for news about him
But he certainly look like a certain 1'st round draft so far.
Anyway since his dad Heinz Ehlers was the first danish drafted player ever and first danish hockey star in Sweden there certainly will be some expectations.
11 points (7G 4A) in 4 games since the national team break.
That is quite impressive since his club (Biel) is number 13 among 14 teams with just 20 points in 22 games. Not bad for a 16 year old kid in a U20 league. He doesn't even play U17 matches as he did last year.
It's Mikkel Bødker and Lars Eller class. Eller was drafted 13'th in 2007 and Bødker was drafted 8'th in 2008, so Nikolaj Ehlers is certainly on that path without injuries.
Nikolaj Ehlers has now been called up to Biel's NLA team.
He is the youngest ever dane to play at such a level.
Only Philip Larsen (Dallas Stars) can challenge him, played in the SEL at 16 too.
Danes are hawking this thread
Correction: Philip Larsen didn't play in the SEL at 16 yrs. It was in the Allsvenskan for Rögle back in the 05-06 season.
By Danish standars, Ehlers is a huge talent. Hopefully, he will make a move to either Swedish or NA junior hockey next season and we will see how he ranks against the other 2014 first round candidates.
