But yeah, 60 goals pretty easily for me.
If EK had put up those numbers with more goals, maybe 25 or so, it would have been a lot more impressive and a lot closer.
Mention how poll is a lot closer than comments make it seem, then post comment exact same as everyone else. Hmm...

Stamkos scored 48 ES goals? Did not know this. Stamkos it is.

Karlsson had impressive season but 60 goals is something else. Stamkos it is.

Stamkos had a ton of ES goals, putting him 2 shy of the overall lead for goals compared to everyone else's goal totals including PP. Similarly, Karlsson had 50 ES points, which puts him 3 shy of any other D's total points.

I view the regular seasons as roughly equivalent but Karlsson was a different kind of beast in the playoffs as well. I voted Karlsson but I would have voted "even" if there was an option for that...

I don't think he meant that Karlsson's season is better, but that the majority of the comments say Stamkos and the players' seasons were closer in difficulty than that.

Simple to skew the stats by taking Stamkos' precise number and to round Karlsson's down to 70...

If you take his actual points, it's been done 3 times in that time frame by Leetch (79 in 00-01), Leetch (78 in 96-97) and Lidstrom (80 in 05-06).

Hey, look at that. All of a sudden, LESS people have done what Karlsson has done in that time frame than what Stamkos has done in the same time frame. Go figure. It's easy to cherry pick stats to make your point seem stronger...

60 goals is frikkin 60 goals. Winning the Norris is also awesome, this is probably closer than many thinks but I would probably vote for the 60 goals

Why do you randomly take away 8 points from Karlsson though ? Karlsson didn't score 70 points, he scored 78. Karlsson scored 1.3 points for every goals Stamkos scored, so if you take away 8 points from Karlsson, you should take away ( 8 / 1.3 = 6.1 ) 6 goals from Stamkos, so 54 goals. How many times were 54 goals scored in the last 15 years ? 9 times. And 8 times a defenseman scored 70+ points.

Also,

Last defenseman to score 78+ points : Lidstrom in 05-06
Last forward to score more 60+ goals : Ovechkin in 07-08

Last defensemen to score 78+ points at 21 years old or less : Brian Leetch ( 88-89 )
Last forward to score 60+ goals at 21 years old or less : Wayne Gretzky ( 82-83 ) BUT Ovechkin ( 07-08 ), Jagr ( 95-96 ), Bure ( 93-94 ) and Lemieux ( 88-89 ) all did it at 22, so not a really big difference.

I don't understand why most of you guys are saying that Stamkos season was more impressive. It's close, and if we look at statistics, Karlsson should get the edge.

I didn't take away 8 points. I used the same + you're using for "60+ goals". Or did you just ignore that on purpose?

And a year is a HUGE difference. That's 365 days of development, and longer in some cases. One year is the difference between Stamkos scoring 46 points and then 51 GOALS.

What ? Stamkos scored 60 goals, of course I'm gonna use 60+ goals. If he scored 68 goals, then I would use 68+ goals and not 60+.

And I know one year is a big difference, but what I wanted to show is that no one between Karlsson and Leetch even came close to score 78 points at 21 years old, whereas a few players scored 60+ goals at 22 years old. Also, the difference is much bigger between 18 years old and 19 years old than it is between 21 and 22. Plus you can't ignore the fact that Stamkos was not well used in his first year, if he would have had more opportunities I'm sure he would of score alot more than 46 points.

Went with Karlsson because 78 points for a defenseman is very impressive. Very hard to go against a guy that scored 60 goals though. Its very close.

I went with Stamkos.

It's not as if opposing teams aren't trying to shut him down at this point.

Part of the credit goes to my boy MSL.

Karlsson is something else though. His 50 ES points is pretty crazy.
