We all remember the most important and most celebrated goals in Canucks history, but what about some of the lesser-known goals that may not have been so important historically, but still remain memorable to you for whatever reason. Maybe something unusual happened on the play, maybe it was a totally sick pass or shot, or maybe something else. Share em.
i don't think there's a clip of it anywhere on the internet, but my most memorable canucks goal is bure against LA in the second round of the '93 playoffs.
zhitnik shadows bure the entire series and mostly shuts him down. but there was this one play where bure carries zhitnik on his back, like literally on his back, from the blue line to the crease. with zhitnik still holding onto him, he spins counter-clockwise, making zhitnik take hrudey out of the play, and then backhands it into an open net. or at least that's my twenty year-old memory of it.
I miss Gino Odjick. If you weren't old enough for those days, go watch some Youtube videos. Classic brawls and just a wild man on the ice that everyone loved. Just a tad crazy but all heart. We could use a guy like that today...
I don't know if this fits the "not-so-well-remembered" category, Druken's OT winner against the Kings is one of my favourites goals in Canucks history. It was even better because the recently traded Felix Potvin was in net for the Kings, so Druken knew he had the top 85% of the net to shoot at.
Remember when it was a big deal just to make the playoffs?
Not sure if this is well-remembered, but I really liked this goal. My second season following the Canucks. Early season game, Gino Odjick penalty shot, scores to make it 4-2. Love the fan reaction!
I'll always remember this one. I was at that game, my first ever Canucks game, and that memory stands out vividly. My Dad had to hoist my friend and I onto his shoulders to see overtop of everyone who was standing up, and the building went nuts.
EDIT: In his brief tenure with the Canucks (a few months apart, I think) Jason King scored two incredible highlight reel goals. Neither of them had anything to do with him, mind you - they were both astounding set ups from the Sedin Twins. IIRC, they were his first NHL goal vs. Calgary, and then another one against Minnesota where the goaltender was left completely out of his net. I tried YouTubing it but no dice.
The Canucks / Flames series in 1989 is one of my favourite and least favourite Canucks memories. After years and years of sucking, we finally saw some potential again. A lunch-bucket Canucks team took the eventual Stanley Cup winners to Game 7 overtime before Joel Otto kicked in the puck to win the series for the Flames.
I seem can't find much on youtube outside outside of that heartbreaking 7th game, but here's a short handed goal (assists to Snepsts and Skriko) by 19 year old Trevor Linden from the 6th game (which we won) that gave Canucks' faithful some inkling of what we had in store for us...
I have a really clear memory of that Burrows goal against Kipper. And at the time thinking, how can this guy not have more goals...look at his hands...stone handed guys don't score goals like that!
Will always be one of my favourite Canucks.
That really was the goal where I realized Burrows was a player! His first in nearly 50 games, and he started scoring on a fairly regular basis after that. It was like he just needed the confidence, or something.
Thanks for posting it, I totally forgot about it, and it's exactly what I wanted for this thread. Some of the stuff posted here are some of the most famous, and most beloved goals in Canucks history. Kinda not the point of the thread.
