Shortened season question?

Does anyone know what happens if there is a lock out for a month or so will there be a new schedule released?

The NBA redrafted the schedule. Original schedule came out around mid-July I think and then they lost the November and most of December games.

When they redrafted it, they crammed in as many games as they could into the shortened season while lengthening it a bit at the back end IIRC. Players weren't thrilled about it though because the increased frequency of games lending itself to a increased risk of injury. There are those that have speculated that Derrick Rose's knee blowout was caused predominantly by the burden of the compressed season. Back to back to back games. Ouch.

Regular season 82 games, compressed season 66 games.

They'll have to re-do the schedule, there are division and conference requirements they'll have to meet (shortened, but still need to be met), and depending on how short, there may be no inter-conference games at all.

That sounds right... say a 44 game season... home and home in conference opponents and 3 and 3 against division rivals. This would be under the assumption that the season starts on New Years Day.

The schedule will not be kept in it's current form and be chopped down as it would cause an unbalanced schedule.

Another thought on this... this season was our season to host the central division teams... if the season is tanked/cut short, would that mean that next season would be our season to host them or would be get the northwest instead? I suppose this is all moot as we may have a new division/conference home at the end of a significant stoppage.

Last time the NHL had a shortened season, they released a new schedule.

NBA schedule was pretty intense. I believe they even had some back to back to back games.

Although basketball isn't as physically draining as hockey is.

The hockey fan in me would enjoy that thoroughly if it is the worst case scenario.

I'll take a few injuries if it means there's actual hockey to watch.

But yeah it could be a rough season.

Or Central Conference if the original proposal from the NHL gets approved.

But for the 2012-13 season, if the season is shortened, I wonder if they'll draft a new schedule with the Jets in the west or in the east. I'm guessing that they would stay in the Southeast regardless as the schedule maker will be simply juggling the current schedule with the teams playing division rivals primarily.

See how the news comes out today in the CBA talks...

For this season, unless they some how work the divisional/conference realignment into the CBA (haha), there will be no way that the Jets get shuffled around for a shortened season schedule (should we need one). There was enough dissent around the table when realignment was the only thing being discussed. Imagine tacking that on to the CBA?

I looked up the info on the lockout from 94-95.

The NHL was shortened to a 48 game season.

No inter conference play.

The lockout lasted until January 13th.

The regular season did not end until May 3rd (3 weeks later than this year's schedule).

Playoffs ended with a NJ Devils sweep over Detroit on June 24 - 7 game series would have put the season very close to ending in July.

I definitely thought about this too. I actually think it would be great because it would give Jets fans travelling to see them more games in a road trip to see

I think our team can stack up to injuries pretty good. We lack the superstar forward and score throughout the lineup so if we lose a forward (even Wheeler) its not as big of a loss as most teams losing their best forward.

Same for defence. If one of Enstrom or Byfuglien goes down, Bogosian can easily handle the top line minutes. I'd be more worried about Postma on the second pairing.

If its goalies were screwed. We can't lose Pavs.

So in conclusion, as long as Pavs doesnt get hurt, I think we can handle injuries better than most teams.

I'd be very worried. A lot of our troubles last year came from loss man-games between Buff, Enstrom and Bogo.

Also, Stuart or Clitsome would be more likely candidates for second pairing since they are given mostly defensive minutes.
