A-Rod will finish his career with the Yankees and he'll be in the lineup tomorrow - what number in the order might and should be different

He's gotten better since he first came to NY and has become less me-first to an extent - when Torre batted him 8th in 2006 when he was 1-11 going into the final game of the series that furthered the rift between the two of them because Torre kept preaching to him that he had to become a team player and stop being so concerned with his own self and stats - some guys handle that differently, Torre did it to Giambi in 2003, batted him 7th in game 7 against the Sox, and Giambi responded with 2 big HR's while in 06 A-Rod chose to pout - comparing that to how he reacted post game tonight, is a world of difference

To give somebody a mention who was under shadowed for obvious reasons tonight, Kuroda was friggen huge in keeping the game close for 8+ innings, helluva outing

I can't wait to see what FMASC has to say about this one. Apparently Girardi agrees with the rest of the world that A-Rod does not belong at bat in a clutch situation.

A-Rod sure didn't look too pissed when Raul went off in the 9th.

I'm sure even ARod isn't upset about it given the result.

A-Rod is definitely glad they won, but I'm willing to bet he's a little bitter about how it went down. Not that we'll ever really know for sure. He didn't look too happy sitting on the bench in the 9th until Ibanez homered.

Still a ways away, but I'd bet this Strasburg shut down thing is going to heavily contribute to leaving via free agency.

Scott Boras will have more to do with him leaving than the Nats shutting him down.

All agents are puppets. They do what their clients want them to do. The player is the one who signs the contract.

If Strasburg feels betrayed by the Nats and does not want to play there, he won't sign there.

I just never understood why the Nats did this in the first place. He's not hurt, he's not sore, he was pitching fine until the inning count started getting in his head. I'm fine with having an inning count if the Nats stunk. But come July/August, the inning count should have been thrown out the window when it was apparent the Nats have a World Series chance. Every team changes every year. This team is going to change and who knows if it's for the better? It's sports. This team could go 40 years without getting this opportunity again.

Jeff Passan has a pretty good article about the decision to sub in Ibanez:

I know it's cynical, but I kind of hope they do now. I find it absolutely ridiculous that they refuse to use their best pitcher in the playoffs, especially when you consider this is their franchise's first postseason berth. They had the best record in baseball and now they are on the verge of bowing out in the first round. It is clear that is has become a distraction to other players as well. It's so ****ing stupid, even other team's executives are bashing the Nats and hoping they lose:

Quote:
“If we don’t win the World Series, I don’t care who does,” one general manager told USA TODAY Sports, “as long as it’s not those guys.

“They don’t deserve to win it. Not after what they did.”

Said a National League GM: “I hope they go down in flames. I hope it takes another 79 years before they get back to the playoffs. That’s how strongly I feel about it.”

It won't have any effect one way or the other, Bora$ is all about the money.

Boras doesn't sign the contracts. It's Strasburg's decision, not Boras. Boras just gets him the most money for whatever team he's talking to. If Strasburg doesn't want to play for Washington, then Boras would be wasting his time.

Girardi's father passed away this morning, but he will manage tonight's game

Condolences go out to his family - hopefully Yanks can pull one out for him and his pops tonight

If you have Bora$ as an agent in the first place your object is to get the most money, period. I can't name one Bora$ client that took less or decided not to play with a team (as a FA) for reasons other than money.

I guess they didn't want to give Washington two 1 pm games in a row, but it makes no sense to have the two game fives tkday as the first and last games in the worst time slots. Understand the A's-Tigers late because it is the only west coast game, but swap the first two at least.
