With the team we had in place at the end of the year, I would have (and even said it) been fine with moving Granderson in a deal for some pitching
But now I'm absolutely against moving him because look at the lineup right now going into opening day, obviously a long ways away, but with the budget tight, there aren't going to be many significant moves and it's not pretty
While there have been incidents where Youk has acted like a baby, I've otherwise respected his gritty style of play and how he carries himself
Only two I can think of are the spat with Valentine which was clearly Valentine's fault as displayed by his termination, and the throwing the helmet at Porcello but baseball players are sissies when it comes to fighting anyway. Aside from Kyle Farnsworth who throws hay makers.

Without Bobby V here, I wouldnt mind Youk for cheap . Only problem is we dont have anywhere to put him

There have also been the smaller scale incidents of him complaining about fans booing, complaining to the media about the media, getting angry with Ellsbury because he went to Arizona for his busted rib operation, and of course how he is equivalent to Clarkson when it comes to complaining to officials about everything
Assuming they bring in cheapies to fill in the empty holes which is seeming more and more likely by the day, how do they expect to do better than last season when they'll have virtually the same team with some downgrades and everybody 1 year older
Don't get me wrong, making the ALCS was nice and all and is something many teams wish to do, but with the exception of June, the team was very inconsistent
I've been doing a little reading on the Yankees situation and Hal might have a bit of a strategy here.
Right now the Yankees are in the 50% tax bracket, if they stay below the $189 million soft cap until 2014 then the bracket resets to 0% tax. 2015 is a monster free agent class with Andrus and Verlander being the marquee names, if the Yankees go over after 2014 they'll only pay 17.5% tax compared to the 50% they pay now.
This is some pretty interesting stuff because it could save the Yankees $50 million and make them big time contenders in the 2015 market. With Jeter, Mo, Grandy, ARod, and other big contracts likely gone by then the Yankees could potentially have a lot of money to spend in a few years. It'll take 2 years of being mediocre but the results could be worth it.
It will to take some getting used to for many Yankee fans (and will surely piss a lot off - it's already frustrating me about letting some guys go and passing on others), this is a big time change of how they're operating - since George took over, the Yankees have pretty much spent what they've wanted on whoever they've wanted and the motto was 'win now' every year......that right there is 3 generations of fans used to the norm of spending and winning now
Saving 50 million dollars over 3 seasons while downgrading the talent on the team doesn't really make much sense for the Yankees, at least to me.
It's hard to swallow but they Yankees will come out of this a lot healthier and it can make them more active in the free agent market in a few years. I'm a little conflicted too because of the winning tradition the team has but you have to think about the future.
Yet the Rangers are shopping Michael Young around (who the Phillies are trying to work a deal for) who is not only making $16m (just $4m less than what Yanks offered Youk), but is a far superior player in every facet from fielding to hitting and Cashman says there aren't good trading options for 3Bmen - and Young becomes a FA after this season
If they're so budget tight, they're better off spending that $12m they would on Youk elsewhere
