Is it just me, or has the quality and intelligence of conversation on this topic gone downhill since the end of the lockout?

Gillis just said he has been talking to 4-5 teams within the last week about Luongo. He also said he had conversations about Luongo this morning.

anyone can write a bleacher report article you realize that right? I can write one right now and put Lu no.1 but it doesn't make it true especially when the writer uses no statistical evidence.

The second list is garbage too considering the writer admits to being and homer and putting Fleury at 5. Lu had 3 bad games in finals a couple years ago. Fleury was absolute garbage all playoffs last year. Stats arent even comparable. Lu is way better.

You can't assume you will have a great team in 10 years that even has a window to win. For all you know you could be bottom feeders in 10 years.

The salary cap difference is really not all that great either. Certainly not enough to take a clear downgrade in goal, as you state.
Our BS? I will put it in terms even you can understand.
10 year window > 5-6 year window
You can try to frame it any way you want, the facts are:
1. It is not a clear downgrade in goal, don't put words in my mouth.
2. Some cap savings are always a good thing
3. Even if we are bottom feeders in 6 years, at least goaltending will not be an area of concern.

So much for a lack of interest.

Toronto, Florida, Edmonton and one of Chicago/Philadelphia? Are those the 4?

The basic way I look at it is that we have two great goalies. It's like the quarterback position in football where you can only play one guy at a time. You hang onto the guy who is younger by 7 years or so and ensure that you can have solid goaltending for years to come. If it was any other position like center or defence we would just keep both.

Not saying I agree with the report, but...

The numbers aren't as far off as you think:

2009/2010
Bryz: .920
Luo: .913
Niemi: .912

2010/2011:
Bryz: .921
Luo: .928
Niemi: .920

2011/2012:
Bryz: .909
Luo: .919
Niemi: .915

And the most important stat of all....

#1 of cups
Bryz: 0
Luongo: 0
Niemi: 1

And both Niemi and Bryz have played in much more competitive divisions on worse teams.

.005-.010 Sv% difference is quite big.
Go look at their playoff numbers and get back to me.

....right

You do konw how the concept of a window works. You don't just declear a random amount of time and say that is your window. You have to actually be in cup contention, which you are now.

Once again, it makes no sense to potentially compromise your goaltending during your window (your window is now, not in 10 years). Everyone knows you had given up on Luongo. Due to market cicumstances, he may have another chance, but you can't spin this one.

Niemi has more cups than Lundqvist. Does that mean he's better than Lundqvist too?

Lu has the best stats there. And Canucks play an run and gun style. Where as Bryz played his best on a defence first PHX team where we see Mike Smith having a career resurgence. Niemi had almost nothing to do with that exceptional Chicago team winning.

All GM's are full of crap most the time when asked about trades.

Of course! Lundqvist is a scrub!

By his assessment I guess Luongo is better then Lundqvist as he has only made the conference Finals & Luongo has made the Cup finals

so Nonis is also full of it when he said guys like Reilly & Gardiner won't be traded for older players?

Even better. Carey Price is inferior to Tuuka Rask, you know, the kid that didn't even play last year. I also like how Brodeur's awful season gets ignored for a playoff run. But sure, he's top six.

If that's the most important stat of all then at least get it right.

So I guess that means Nonis is willing to give up Gardiner and other young guys for Luongo?
That's according to your logic.
