He cracked the top 20 scorers in the Q. At #19 with 32pts while the top scorer is at 43pts

In Mario Lucia's 2nd game vs Michigan he got his first college goal! Glad to see him coming back strong.

The goal is around the 1:20 minute mark of the video.

I think Granlund comes up right away. Not sure about Coyle. He seems close to NHL ready but will they have room for him in the top six?

Remember, this is Minnesota...there's going to be about half a dozen injuries within a month.

no one should believe for a second that anyone will be on the Wild before Granlund (injuries, rehab stint aside). Coyle is looking great right now. Prime Bertuzzi?

This would be good news if I wasn't a Wolverine fan..........

I was actually in Ann Arbor and tried to go to the game, but I couldn't because I went to the football game, I was entertaining my parents and wife, plus I had my new puppy.

Loved when he started singing "turn me on"

He seems like a real team guy though. Laid back, yet concentrated and most importantly, keeps feet on the ground (or on the ice rather).

I know it's only warm-up, he knew he was mic'd and stuff but I really started to like Dumba more just because of that.

Russo article on Coyle, others

Quote:
Charlie Coyle
"He's going to make an impact on the Wild for two reasons: He's no-maintenance, high-character and he is so good, so willing defensively," Torchetti said...Coyle "has been our most consistent, complete forward night in and night out since the start of the year."

Jason Zucker
After getting a two-assist, six-game look for the Wild last spring, Zucker has been solid and said, "I'm trying to develop every aspect of my game right now."

Brett Bulmer
Torchetti said, "He's turned the corner. He fought through it, and that's all part of growing up and maturing as player."

Zack Phillips
Said Torchetti: "Phillips should be taking advantage of this ice time because Granlund's gone. He's got to buy in and make sure he plays better defensively."

Justin Fontaine & David McIntyre
"These guys take pride in being strong, two-way hockey players," Torchetti said. "The guys who play two-way hockey end up playing in the NHL quicker. The guys that don't end up in the minors a few extra years asking why."

I wouldn't read into it deeper than what Torch said, which is that he needs to step up his defensive game. He's not Granlund, so he's going to have to work in his end to create the opportunities that will get the offense going.

Really the whole team with a couple exceptions is not playing well defensively and so many of these kids are adjusting. It's not that surprising.

I'd say it's better for Phillips to take his lumps now as a rookie pro in the minors than to spend 2-3 years trying to figure it out.

I'm looking more at the record of how frequently Phillips is scratched or just pushed down the lineup despite not seeming to do anything to deserve it. The Granlund out comment just seems to sit on top because in the only opportunity he was given he played fairly well. (Glancing back through the games, it appears he had two games with Zucker and Coyle)

Like I said in the other thread. For last nights game against the Icehogs, I got the privilege of sitting a few rows behind the bench and while I did see Phillips get berated a few times by the coaching staff, if anyone got yelled at the most it was Larsson and Connelly.

I'm confident Phillips will pull it around.

And Russo's article is spot on. McIntyre really impressed me. Chirping the other team hard, energizing the Aeros bench, and playing an all around solid game I thought.

I didn't even see Phillips take a shift in the 3rd. He had to have gotten benched, but Torch didnt even start him on the 2nd line? Seemed like Phillips was 3rd line center last night from the get go, I think you gotta give the kid better playing time. I dont know the reasons but I was kinda pissed he didnt even play in the 3rd. He better turn it around.

Yes, because right now, we're going to have Scandella, Spurgeron, Brodin, Dumba up in the majors once the NHL comes back. In the minors we'll have who to develop and who to replace Scandella when he goes down with an injury? Spurgeron? Brodin? Dumba? The thing is, Thrower is a wild card like Bussieres but I rather have had a project on defense with Thrower than a project like Bussieres at forward. We got to slot in Koivu, Parise, Heatley, Clutterbuck, Mitchell, Setoguchi, Brodziak, Konopoka, and Powe with Granlund, Coyle, and Zucker. With Phillips, Larsson, Bulmer pushing as well. We have so many top 9 minutes and a lot of guys that can slot into the top 9...

Thrower would have given Minnesota a LOT of flexibility on the back end and given them two promising, very physical top 4 defensemen on the back end with Dumba and Thrower.

Right now it looks like this:

Graduated:
Scandella
Spurgeron

NHL:
Dumba
Brodin

AHL Developing:
Cuma
Kampfer

Unknown Developing:
Medvec
Lorenz
Seeler
Draeger

There is a huge gap in our defense still. I have no prospect of seeing Seeler or Draeger until 2016-2018 in the AHL. And even less so that guys like Medvec or Lorenz will develop into top 4 much less Cuma or Kampfer.
