The way I look at it, nothing is certain regarding our future lines. Who knows, maybe 5 years down the line we're desperately looking for a 2nd line winger and Phillips slots in perfectly.

Let's see how he develops. Management will determine whether he fits their plans going forward.

Prospect riches has gone to everybody's head. Let Phillips have two seasons in the Ahl before you even start to get worried. Same for bulmer. Maybe even larger for him.

Reminds me of Abe Lincoln's timeless quote (sic): "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

Phillips-Brodziak-Coyle

That'd be a nice 3rd line. How I see it panning out:

Parise-Koivu-Zucker
Heatley-Granlund-Coyle
Bulmer-Brodziak-Setoguchi
4th line, could be anything.

Mind you, this is 2-3 years down the line.

The great thing about having players such as Zucker, Coyle and Larsson is that they can also play in a defensive role. They don't necessarily have to be in top-6 to succeed, but they won't look out of place in an offensive role either.

Reckon he'll be gone by then. Someone else will fill that spot, IMO.

Wouldn't disagree. Figure he'll take over Brodziak's role where he'll be optimal for the 3rd line but could legitimately fill in on the 2nd line without compromising too much.

Maybe, maybe not. Notice how I didn't have Clutterbuck in there? Can't expect all of them to pan out.

That being said, I did consider Larsson at first. I also considered Haula.

But when will that be? After this contract or his next one? Brodz is only 27-28 years old

I guess once he prices himself out of our budget. I hope he sticks around for a while. But I don't think we'll be able to afford that after his next/current contract is up.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Just because we have a ton of great prospects doesn't mean we should throw our existing core away. Brodziak is a great two-way player and fits the mold perfectly. Hence why I proposed that Phillips-Brodziak-Coyle line earlier. If Bouchard-Brodziak-Coyle doesn't work out for one reason or another (most likely due to Bouchard hitting his head on a pillow too hard or being out without a hat when it's raining), Phillips would be the closest to his skill-set that we can throw there.

If that fails, we can always replace him with Larsson.

I guess it depends. Never underestimate the power of playing on a winning team. If he likes it here, $3m - $3.5m isn't too much for a player of Brodziak's skill set. I think his current contract is below MV, assuming he maintains similar production to the last couple years.

anyone think higher of him than I do?
To be fair, he is getting the **** minutes in Houston at the moment. To much center depth down there with Granlund, Larsson, Mcntyre. Hopefully with Granlund moving up he will get some better minutes and opportunities and we will see some improvement.

Larsson shouldn't replace Brodziak. Rather, Larsson will be Brodziak's linemate.

Brodziak, Larrson, and then one of Setoguchi/Zucker/Coyle. Yeah, that would be one hell of a 3rd line.

goal 2-0 rd. nice breakout play by dumba, walks around the forechecker, keeps his headup and sends a nice pass to get in the zone, eventual forecheck leads to turn over goal. didnt see if dumba got off, but i think thats a +1 for him.

I've been switching back and forth between the Rebels and the Gophers. Dumba looks pretty solid so far.

1. Prospect viewing of Mario Lucia from Tuesday's game.

2. Haula might be a game-time decision for UND although coach Lucia was pretty vague and covering his tracks. I'd almost be shocked if he does play rather than take another week to recover.
