Ok I guess.

Not really.

Yup.

Calgary has a big tough team whose defense is very difficult to penetrate. Add in stellar goaltending by Chris Driedger and good scoring punch up front and this is a team that will challenge for the division title.

Edmonton was short handed on the back end as Keegan Lowe was injured in the Lethbridge game and Cody Corbett was selected to go to the American Prospect camp. Dyson Mayo drew in as well as Aaron Irving who was called up from Lloydminster. Irving was overwhelmed and took some bad penalties. He just isnt ready for this level yet.

As I expected Mitch Moroz was demoted to the grind line with Ewanyk and Wilson sometime in the second. Stephane Legault will be next when Wruck returns in October.

Was very impressed by 96' born Jake Virtanen. This kid is solid. He handled, and I mean handled Griffin Reinhart in one heated exchange. Literally rag dolled the much older and bigger Reinhart. Not a fight, but a big hit followed by pushing and what not but I lost count how many times Virtanen knocked Griffin to the ice. He's got some offensive talent to boot. At 6'1" 190lbs this kid is one to watch and hope for in 2014 at the draft.

Missing Lowe, Corbett and Gernat is not good for the Oil Kings. I bet they are regretting cutting Ryan Dech about now. Dech has committed to the University of Regina. Depending on how badly Lowe is injured, they may be forced to make a move for a dman sooner rather than later.

Next up for the Oil Kings is Mark McNiell and the Prince Albert Raiders next Thursday night at Rexall.

I would agree with this...while it wasn't entirely the defence's fault that thegame went south on them, not having Lowe and Gernat and Corbett in the lineup is absolutely murderous against a strong team like Calgary. I was very impressed with Calgary's combination of size and skill. It'll be a fun back and forth all year.

Oil Kings should sign Hall as on of their open 20 year old players.

Wruck is back tonight. That should give them a boost.

Gregg Drinnan/Evan Daum is reporting that Dylan Wruck will be back in the lineup tonight for the Oil Kings.

Will be interesting to see what that means for Moroz. Demotion to the Ewanyk/Wilson line would be my guess.

He also said Keegan Lowe hurt himself blocking a shot against Lethbridge and is day to day.

Ryan Smyth took all the boys out to Century Grill last night and picked up the whole tab. Classy guy.

In other thoughts, David Musil wouldn't be a bad acquisition for the team given the team's D predicament and Vancouver's awfulness.

That's a nice gesture by Smyth.

3000 paid attendance? Yikes.

Bob Green needs to make a trade for a mobile, puck-moving defenceman.

What's going on with Gernat? Is he going to be out for a long time with his wonky shoulder?

Reinhart was flat out dominant at times tonight. Moroz is swift for a big boy. Samuelsson can really lug that puck. Lazar had a bad game defensively. Quite quick witted offensively. Geertson is actually a pretty fluid skater and puck handler. Surprised he has had so little points his first two years.

I am going to the game on Saturday vs. Saskatoon. At this point i just hope its competitive. Oil kings shouldn't be losing to the Raiders.

OK's lost 4-1, Ewanyk with the lone goal (PP) with Foster and Lazar getting the apples. Ewanyk also had a charging penalty and Moroz with a holding penalty, both were -1 on the night.

Tis a long season but these last two games have been major downers. You don't usually see trades this early in the season in the WHL (or CHL for that matter) but we need some defense. Badly.

Ewanyk's penalty was a ******** call.

So was Lazar's disallowed goal.

Terrible job of officiating, and its not the first time this year for that crew.

A real dog's ass of a game. No effort by the Oil Kings tonight.

They better get their butts skated into the ice tomorrow.

Cody Corbett is a disaster. Ashton Sautner is ****. Nights like tonight make me glad we didnt trade up to grab Samuelsson. He was garbage and has been for most of the season. Stupid penalties behind the play. Poor goaltending by Jarry.

Gah!

Saw Don Meehan and Craig Button a couple times at the game.

Once separately and once they were talking to each other.

**** that sack of **** Meehan. I would rather spit in his face than talk to him. Gotta lotta nerve showing his face in that building.

Got Saskatoon on Saturday then a couple games with Calgary.

Things could get real ugly in a hurry if they dont knuckle down and focus.

Its early but I think they need to consider making a couple moves.

They desperately need a seasoned vet on defense and some more scoring up front. Legault and Samuelsson are passengers on the Lazar line. Im sure Laxdal and Green realize this. Will be interesting to see if they do something or try and wait it out for Gernat to come back. No idea when that will be but Im thinking playoff time.

If they keep playing like they did tonight there isnt going to be any playoffs.

Hi Everyone...sorry if this has been answered previously, but where is Gernat. I haven't seen him in any of the boxscores. Is he playing for the Oil Kings?

No. He had shoulder surgery and will be gone for a while.

That's too bad...I was expecting big things from him this year. Do you know if he'll be back before the end of the year?

Thanks for the reply by the way!

No idea.

Im thinking playoffs if at all.

But that is a complete shot in the dark.

Basing that on Hemsky, Ewanyk, Hall, etc.

Six months seems to be ballpark.
